At 8:00 my mate from Worthing rang to check how close I was and see if we were ok. Thats a true mate !

Hemel Hempsted storage tanks, just down the road from me. Used to store fuel mostly for Luton airport afaik...no one knows why yet (not terrorist, mind) but one of the underground tanks started burning. They have to let it all burn off, as they can't go near. The smoke from space.

I'm flying to Luton tomorrow and flying back on Tuesday - do you think I should bring a gallon of fuel to help out EasyJet to make sure the plane doesn't run out on the way back ;D

Heard it, alright. I am 7 miles away, approximately. It must have been about 6.05 this morning. Sounded like nothing else. It shook the entire house. You can always recognise an unusual sound like that, I reckon. I remember when I was at Uni in South Kensington hearing the Harrods bomb go off - also at 6am. Very strange. Rattled my window. I could see Harrods from the window, if I leaned out far enough. I was 7 storeys up, though. I also saw the glow of one of the fireballs through my curtains. According to sketchy figures, 39-44 people have been injured, 2 seriously (but not life threatening). BBC News 24 has full coverage. What at catastrophe. The smoke plume is astonishing. I can see it right now out of my bedroom window. Not too surprising, cosidering it has passed London en route to Europe and is clearly visible from space. The emergency services are gathering foam concentrate to tackle the blaze in the morning or tomorrow some time. It amazes me that they do not maintain a stockpile of foam concentrate somewhere near here for this. I guess you don't expect to get quite such a fire very often. I'm

Yep! Apparently there are only about 9 people staffing Buncefield - 5 of those are security guards! How can that be safe if there is a spill, or something? I mean it is a big depot - really big. Anyway, thanks, pimpdriver. I'm
