OK, non-retro content by the bucket load but today was a good un and its all about participation guys, doesn't matter if you have the coolest car on 4 (or more or less) wheels, a ropey work in progress or just a halfway modern Lexus. Go drive, do stuff, enjoy. First port of call today was V8Lee's gaff, quick natter, note that Corsair not quite finished yet and jump in the cars and head off... Shakey was having a Skyline Scooby and associated modern Japanese car RWYB (see where this is headed) and open to all makes as well, even Mustangs... A real mixed bag of stuff lining up Tidy MR2 Mk1 Supercharged jobbie. Nice guy driving it. This: was fairly typical of the days sport tidy racer The 1958 (I think he said) Berkley was made of PURE 100% WIN RWYB is a funny old day. Where else would you see this: race against a Dodge RAM 1500 king cab? Tee hee. Or a Mustang get beat by a 9 second Hillman Imp? (OK, Sunbeam, I know - and the photo is from a previous event) I had the distinct pleasure of having my ass handed to me not once, but twice by this infamous Viva Then on my way back I stopped off to pick up a set of these: mid-1960s or maybe early 70s I dunno wheel trims for a Buick, probably Electra. From a very nice man who also happened to have these in his garage Which all RAWK. So, I drove about in a modern, I had fun with a like minded mate, talked BS to strangers in the pits, I acquired some hubcaps, met a cool guy with cool hot rods, didn't take enough photos cos I was too busy havin' fun. How was your day? Please add more retro content!

15.1 @ 93 mph.
This is an "in yer face" to a couple of people who told me no chance it would break out of the 16s. 15.4 first run off the street. I reckon with playing with the tyre pressures I might get a 14.9 @ 95 out of it.
I cut a .440 reaction as well which I was pleased with. On that tree .400 is perfect.
Lee did well. He needs more tyre we reckon (he reckons, I just nod) and went 14.7 @ 98 mph in the Stang, maybe quicker after I left him "just one more run..."

Sounds like a great day! Out of interest, what's the cost of the RWYB at shakey? Is it cheaper than the pod? My day went pretty well, no one thing in particular, it's just one of them days where stuff seems to go right. I went out for a play on my new bike after having replaced the engine, and it just seemed 'right'. For no apparent reason the spotlights on my Jeep started working - I put the relay in months ago and they never worked so I just lost interest. Then on my way home this evening I put main beams on and lo and behold, extra brightness! I'll add a pic of my bike, but only 'cos my Chevy (and 'retro' air-cooled Kawasaki...) is in the background for retro goodness, as per your request....

The Berkley has MG and BMC logos on it so I assume some form of A series.
Shakey costs are: £12 per person admission and £20 to sign on whereas I think the Pod is usually £10 admission and £25 to sign on.

Mine is the "hot one". It has the 280 BHP VVTI engine (1998-2000 models) and the better suspension ("Dynamic Handling Package" option) with the wider rubber (245s as stock) so its a bit warmer than the regular 260 BHP LS400 and probably digs in a little better.
Even the track announcer seemed impressed that I was "giving that Lexus one hell of a thrashing" or words to that effect.
People continually underestimate these cars. They get five Akku stars.

I'd like to report that after AK left I ran a 13. That's what I'd like to report, however that didn't happen. I ran another 15 something (win) and went home. I am now (as expected) well and truly bitten by the bug, but I don't think I'll be racing again this year. For anyone who hasn't tried it I'd thoroughly recommend giving it a go. It really doesn't matter if you don't have a fast car - I raced everything from the aforementioned Stiletto running 9.1 to a 5 door Corsa running 20 seconds. I'd bet both guys had just as much fun. See you at the strip.

Hopefully be having a go myself next year, just need to get the car sorted first, but I can't wait, it's something I have wanted to do for years. Nice one Lee, just got to control the "..must go faster.." urges.
Cheers,
Stu.
