Hard top would be nice sadly their secod hand cost is still rather prohibitive! Would love to make it a Area 52 project could be great.. neaten sill patches, redo sills in super shiny black.. repaint sides in red.. collage bonnet, boot.. and centre portion of dash perhaps?! Oooo i like the idea.. you reading this bruce?!

How would you protect the collage from the elements? If you laquer the print the ink will likley run (unless you can get transparent vinyl to lay over the top). Or just get the collage reproduced in vinyl and wrap the panels you want?

Or just get the collage reproduced in vinyl and wrap the panels you want? It's called decoupage, and it's been done a lot over many years. Lacquer will not cause the paint to run. Our very own Bryn owns a decoup'd beach buggy.

^That one^ is made up exclusively from Princess Di cuttings. I know because I bid on it on Ebay a while back. As for content Option and other Japanese mags should give you plenty to work with.

Someway of doing everything in red except a collaged roof? Massive FTW On a hard-top, you mean? Yeah, on a hard top, although any way of a fabric collage of magazines [christ, that wouldn't be cheap] would look even better. Fabric soft top as an enlarged Hawaiian shirt detail....lovely jubbly.

How about a golfball theme? Pays dividends in reduced fuel cost, as it prevents aero separation of the boundary layer. That's why golfballs with dimples fly faster and further. So.... get the boys good and sauced at Area 52, give them each a small doming punch and brass hammer. And then go to town! On the plastic bits, do the dimpling with a dremel and ball-burr bit. Boom, done! Except for the paint, which could be Nike or Dunlop, with appropriate logo-ing. Unique. Practical. Pays you back in fuel savings! Yes, I'm a genius.

;D genius indeed.. although to go with the theme i'd have to invest in a set of plus fours and tats a commitment to style I'm not willing to make! Am seriously stuck on this idea still everything seems great when first concieved but its all now having drawbacks for me.. Repaint: potentially costly, probably boring.. all cars have paint after all! Collage: potentially brill.. equally potentially a massive fail either on looks application etc. Flock: Same as above might look great or gash.. and is bound to be a nightmare to keep looking good! So open to any further suggestions or pictorial inspiration..

Collage FTW - absolutely!
Speak to Mark about his Manga idea for the Senator - if he isn't going with it, might be somehting to consider??
One thing I am 150% sure about - this is deffo a prime contender for an Area 52 weekender. Get everything ready and roll in as is....roll out with new 'scheme', lowered, wheels refurbed etc.....it has to be done!
Ben also has a weekend provisionally reserved for getting the Volvo the once over in 70's Y-front brown & lime green! Looks like we're not going to be stuck for stuff to do on our playdays??

Cool cheers Bruce.. I had been struggling to think of a J theme for the collage, Manga would seiously rock! Have to have words with Mark I'm almost instantly sold on the idea.. I'm thinking gloss black bonnet and sills manga everything else? Polished lip on the wheels and black spokes, dropped on coilovers.. instant win! Alternative would be red sides.. bonnet and bootlid manga-ised same wheels... equally good. Something cool with the roof would rock but I think the cost would be silly big.. plus where possible it stays down! Cant wait to see the old volvo in 70's y fronts paint either it will rock! --Scurrys off to PM Mark---- ;D

we could do a playday re-spray... might mean we all need to raid our SWMBOs cupboards for their hair dryers to get the paint dry between coats seeing as Area52 hasn't got an oven... ;D

What sort of coverage would you get with decoupage? If it was me I would be staying well away from red and heading for black and white with a predictable but appropriate theme. Black and white should look more cohesive from a distance while retaining the detail up close.

Yeah thats true.. also gives more options for images, trying to get enough images in red would prove an issue.. as for the spray day think the idea has been banded about and i ca probably lay my hands on a huge diesel space heater
