Not sure if this has been posted up here here before but I found it quite intresting as a friend of mine is looking at importing electric vehicles into the UK. Not quite as quick as this thing though ;D 0-60 in ~ 2.9 seconds Best ET 11.466 @ 114.08 MPH (as of June 28, 2008 with the lithium ion pack borrowed from the KillaCycle) Even better is that he often drives the car to and from the drag strip, and drives it around as a daily driver as well. When not being used as a drag racer, it gets decent range too. ![](http://farm1.static.flickr.com/178/411073060_5256934197.jpg) ![](http://gas2.org/files/2009/03/7484-1972-datsun-1200.jpg)

I`ve read about this and have a magazine article somewhere about it. I`m quite interested in the concept of having an old vehicle with a modern electric plant in it. This turns up in the NE - ![](http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd36/chevazon/Shildon/IMG_0674.jpg) ![](http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd36/chevazon/Shildon/IMG_0671.jpg) ![](http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd36/chevazon/Shildon/IMG_0673.jpg)

Electric cars have been around for a hundred years. They are nearly as old as the idea of cars themselves.

Yes, I think people are missing something here. Namely in the shape of a cool retro Datsun that runs super quick and is electric. No one is qustioning wether on not electric cars are new, merely pointing out this great piece of home engineering to those who may have missed it. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

They are nearly as old as the idea of cars themselves. ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) am I missing something? they have been around longer than that... A hundred years ago is the roughly correct estimate for the time period when electric cars were a viable business, with several on-going concerns manufacturing them for public consumption, as opposed to 19th century phase of shop experimentation which coincided with the emergence of battery tech itself. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) There was a good 15 or 20 year time period after the turn of the century when it was completely unclear whether gasoline or electric cars would dominate the immediate future of automobile propulsion.

No one is qustioning wether on not electric cars are new (As to my post) No one is missing anything. No one is arguing about anything. No one is questioning anything. You must allow for other people to make statements in support of electric car technology, yes? And so, thusly, my statements were so offered. Interestingly, you took them to be "missing something", rather than adding positively to the discussion. For the white Nissan is at the tail-end of a century of electric car development. Not the vanguard. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Electric cars have been around for a hundred years. They are nearly as old as the idea of cars themselves. i really can't be bothered with internet arguing, but this statement just seems out of context to anything else in the thread? I digress, i appreciate the Datsun for what (i believe) it is, a stepforward for electric cars of the future, if a backyard engineer can get it to work as well as this, whats up with the major car producers?

I'm not arguing, or poking at your posts. You're doing that to mine. I am also not setting myself up as the "context" bouncer of the forum. A cool car was posted. It uses a propulsion unit about which I posted a video (of its inventor unfortunately crashing during a TV trade show interview) last year. I pointed out that electric cars have been around for approx a hundred years. And that irritates you? LOL EDIT: I'll be much more careful in the future not to point out technological or evolutionary milestones. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

don't forget steam, steam cars worked better than petrol ones for a while, and steam lorries were around for quite a long time, better suited for heavy loads etc etc. Datsuns cool but i'd miss the noise of a petrol engine. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
