Up for sale for just £25 is my mums old VW Golf. It's a Mk 2 CL model and it's a G reg. We've had this in the family for years but due to my grandad passing away I now have now aquired a Mk3 golf. I've got a Spitfire as well and sadly I can't keep them all! This has been laid up on the drive at my mums for around a year and it's now time for it to go!
Bodywork: Bodywork is not too bad for the age to be honest. The worst parts are the front doors which I have attempted to photograph. There are rust blisters on the drivers door under the rubbing strips, at the bottom of the door and under the window. The passenger door has a blister in the front corner. If I were keeping the car I'd just get two front doors from a scrappy and spray them in. Apart from the front doors there is a scab on the drivers side sill and the usual light rust around the arches. Also, the front valance is a bit rusty in front of the front wheels. The car has never had any welding and, as far as I can see, dosen't need any.
Mechanicals: The engine was running when it was laid up and I have charged the battery up and got it running since. The big ends knock a bit on start up and I think that the compression is pretty low because the car feels a bit lame on hills and there appears to be a bit of oil coming from the breather. If I were keeping it I'd give it new 'rings and 'ends to give it a new lease of life. It was still perfectly drivable last time I drove it I took it all the way down to Bedford on the motorway and back with no issues whatsoever. Unfortunatly since being left on the drive there have been a couple of other issues - the exhaust has become unwelded around the rear silencer and fallen off and that the rear brakes have seized on because the handbrake has been left on. I will try and free it off but I can't make any promises!
Interior: The interior is in really good but a bit grubby condition. The seats and carpets have no rips or tears whatsoever. This is the CL model so you get absolutely 0 luxuries, just a very solid build quality. The only issues are a slightly stained rear door card and the headlining had started to drop. Apart from that it's fine and has good carpet and even the original mats in the front!
Paperwork: I've got all the paperwork for the car - V5 and old MOT's and stuff. It's nothing like a full service history but there are various bills and things and there is the original manual and stuff as well.
That's it really. If you've got any questions just ask. I want it off my drive as soon as possible and it should make a good cheap project for anyone who wants to put a bit of time and effort in. Okay so it's got it's flaws but if you want it for spares or to fix it up it's a bargain. It's about 1/20th the price of most cars on here!
