Well I tried. I really really did give it my best shot. Tomorrow the E46 M3 goes back to the guy I bought it from. Much as I liked it, it's just too modern and the performance too much to enjoy safely and without risking my licence. Instead I'm going to do what any sensible person would do and travel 2300 miles to look at another old BMW.

Funny you should mention that... Fortunately it's still an m10. I think they're brilliant engines anyway and the one in this car has had an extensive rebuild. It's still a 1.6 but it makes a dyno proven 170 -175bhp and reputedly puts many a 2 litre car to shame. It has a 118 head that has been flowed and runs bigger valves (45mm/38mm), 12.5:1 compression and Schrick 316 degree cam. The whole bottom end was balanced and it easily revs to 8500rpm, although I will probably set a limit at 7k for longevity. The dizzy was altered to suit and works with MSD 6AL ignition. The exhaust manifold is a spaghetti 4 branch going to a Supersprint single silencer system. It has just had a set of new Weber 45 DCOES fitted and jetted to suit, so sounds glorious. Suspension is Bilstein all round and custom lowered springs. I'd like to bring the ride height down just a little more, so may swap to coilovers should a set come along. Brakes, ARB's etc are all from a 2002 but I don't know exactly which model yet. The car is actually in Athens and it's sods law that everything in Greece closes down for Easter, so it'll be a couple of weeks before it finds it's way on to the ship and UK bound. The voyage itself is around 25 days so it'll be late May or early June by the time it hits the road here. Once it arrives I plan on fitting new seats (Cobra RSR) and either a Petri or Prototipo steering wheel? I'm going to get a new carpet set too, as whilst the Greek climate is great for rust free cars, the interiors get terribly sun bleached. I also want to find a set of early clocks if anyone knows of any? The biggest surprise was how cheap the ferry back has been at just £550! Happy days! Pictured below are the style of clocks I'm after if anyone knows of a set please?

Out of the garage (hence all the dust) and about to have a thorough inspection and service over the next 2 weeks.

Mark. That sounds fabulous. 25 days isn’t long either. Can’t wait to see it

02 is in the workshop this week and is being made ready for its new life here in the UK. The engine had a compression test yesterday and made 230 on every cylinder. All the oils and fluids are being changed before it heads off to have a brand new set of Weber 45's fitted and jetted by a chap called John Palmos, who is evidently quite well known in the Greek 02 scene and has a great reputation. Hopefully I will have a fresh dyno sheet after Wednesday but having seen a video of the fully warmed engine running, I'm happy that it's a good one. It sounds lovely! The worst thing about this is going to be the wait for the ship to arrive in Southampton and I'm gutted it won't be here in time for Goodwood. I'm already planning some changes for the interior. Ideally some Cobra RSR seats and a Petri or Prototipo steering wheel? I want to get a new carpet set but it needs to be a good fit and quality. The final thing will be either Minilites or Revolution 4 spokes? I need 13x7 ET25 if anyone knows of, or has any? Mind you, these VW Beetle rims look epic. These are the seats I have in mind.

I found out today that BMW 1602 VIN 3903049 was manufactured on July 31st, 1972 and delivered on the same day to Belgium. Bought a new steering wheel. James @ JFI hooked me up with a set of 6x13 ATS Classics, so all I need now are seats and a carpet if anyone has one? LHD obviously. John Palmos fitting the new Weber's earlier today, as part of getting the car ready for its new life here in the UK.

Well that's a spot booked on the GRANDE ELLADE and it departs Greece on the 12th, with an ETA at Southampton of Thursday May 30th. Hopefully I can pick it up on the Friday?

Change of plan. A delightful Greek chap is bringing it on his transporter! It's leaving Athens on Thursday, so all being well I will get my sweaty paws on it the following Tuesday. I just need to get it registered ASAP. Meanwhile, it has been having some love prior to shipping.
