Well I am still waiting on some parts so things have ground to a bit of a halt lately. The new barrel and outer lip for the wheels are awaiting machining, although the centres are back from paint. I did think about going a little darker but this colour means the detail of the basket weave remains visible. It's a nice contrast to the red of the bodywork too. I still need to buy tyres although I have decided to stick with staggered 215 and 235/40 r17's though. I'd opt for something like r888r Toyo but my bank balance is taking such an almighty kicking of late, so a cheaper but decent alternative is what's needed. Magnecor are making the custom HT leads, as I will be using Ford Zetec coil packs with the swap to DTA standalone. Unfortunately it's a busy time for them hence the delay. We still have to work out the mount for the cam sensor too, so that's next on the list and then the newly rebuilt dogleg can go back in, along with the new clutch and lighter flywheel. A few more shiny bits arriving this week from Seven9 Design including a new washer fluid reservoir and spare wheel well mounted fuel reservoir. The fuel cell will go in later though, once I have a swirl pot and dual pumps. Final parts are the lamp pod and lights, but they're still on order and the pod will need painting before we mount it. It should look awesome once fitted though. I also have new brake discs but I wanted to have the Tarox front callipers refurbished before fitting. I also need to get new pads but there are limited brands available. I like to use Hawk, as they work really well but don't cost silly money. Unfortunately Hawk don't make them in this pattern so Carbotech are the only alternative to the Ferodo DS2500 I run currently. I have no experience of them myself though and at £200 it's a bit much to spend on a whim.

Good news! Magnecor have finished the custom lead set. Bad news! They post them the day before a 4 day bank holiday! Hopefully next week will mean we can finally fire the engine and get the mapping sorted. I'm so looking forward to seeing what power the s14 makes!

looks like those Calipers are using a Brembo commercial pad shape!
I found a few cross references, MDB1585 is the mintex number for that shape, DP4413R for EBC. Textar number 2078401

Yes, would be great to have it back for the summer and especially this years RRG. Thanks for cross referencing. Yes, they're same pad shape as Mercedes G Wagon and Ford Cargo! The last pads I bought were DS2500 but they had to have a few mm's taken off them to fit. We tried to do this whilst creating the least amount of heat as possible but I don't think it's an ideal situation. Anyway, thanks again and I'll fire off a few emails to see if the above can supply anything suitable.

Mark, i don't know who built that box but by using rtv they have changed all the shimming. Really these do need paper gaskets, just fyi really

Thanks Ian. Mark, i don't know who built that box but by using rtv they have changed all the shimming. Really these do need paper gaskets, just fyi really Thanks. I'll investigate further and may just have to bite the bullet and fit them. The last thing I need right now are problems brought about by missing gaskets. I'm also looking at saving for Samsona's gear set but I'm a way off that yet. www.samsonas.com/products/11/

It rather depends if its been opened up before? of rtv was in there to start with then the shims are probably not on the gear kit. It it was previously un molested either the shim have been removed, which is not ideal really, or the shimming is wrong.
the gaskets are expensive so are often ignored, but obvuously you can just cut them out with a scalpel rather than paying for gen ones

I'm not sure either way tbh, but the box was rebuilt by Kent Transmissions and warrantied, so I'll have to see how it feels?

Well we are finally at the point where the engine is ready to fire for the first time. All being well, space is booked on the dyno for Saturday and Sandy Brown will be working his laptop based magic. It's been a long and awfully expensive road but the end result is finally in sight. Evidently the wheels are almost ready to be built up too, so a set of Toyo r888's are coming to wrap them in. Then it should just be a case of giving the whole car a thorough detail before I can give it some use and put a few miles on the newly rebuilt s14.

Well we started the mapping but the stock injectors just weren't able to flow enough fuel. As a result we had to stop and reschedule for Friday. Things are certainly improving though as it was making 225 brake at a gnats over 5k revs and there's 3k still to go! Just had a message to say the 3 piece alloys will be here on Tuesday too!

Hope today goes better Mark, I did see a few of those bosch green injectors on ebay but most were but miles away, they're reeeeallly old by now even if in good nick, anything newer around the 370cc mark would suffice and do the job.

Well we ended up with 235 - 240 but there's a little more to come once the engine has a few miles on it and the 4 branch is fitted. Torque is up considerably and right across the range. I'll scan the print-out when I have it. Yes, I wanted more but whatever the figure it was never going to be enough. I should have a video later too. The rims came out pretty well. I think they look great.
