Mind you, there's no desperate rush and I'm enjoying running around in the 318is, although I would like to replace the 14'' alloys. Ideally I would like some 16'' Azev or Compomotive TH. I know Jim always liked the TH and I like the idea of keeping it true to the look he liked. I really want to give it a thorough clean and get some shine back on that white paint. It's not too bad really but it did sit unused for a few months due to Jim being so unwell. I might have a go later today as it's not raining. I think it would be great to give the iS some love and putting the wheels on it that Jim really wanted would be a lovely touch. I met him a couple of times and he loved that car... It's definitely in good hands being with you that's for sure! I am gutted to see what happened to the M3 but, as we have all seen before, nothing deters you...!!! I can't wait to see it's next round of upgrading...

Talking of sound, am considering a side exit exhaust but not sure I can get enough clearance and still make it quiet enough to be usable?
Went across to the workshop this morning and the new rack is now fitted, along with the freshly painted front bumper and a few other bits. There are also details like new brackets for brake fluid reservoir and new lines, alloy coolant expansion tank and carbon fibre heater panel. We are still waiting on big wing sump and cams and the custom wiring loom from DTA Fast.
The wheels are with AGS and they are waiting on stainless bolts from BBS so they can finally be built up. I need to order some new tyres in 225/40 and 235/40 x 17 but am unsure which to go with? I'd like Michelin Sport Cup but I'm tempted to give something different a try. Any suggestions?
Whilst the M3 is off the road I have been using the 318is and it's as much fun as ever. I need to get some 15 or 16'' wheels sorted though.

Engine bay is now up to scratch and opted to delete the ABS. It was never much good and the bay looks much tidier now it has gone. The coolant tank is from VAC and is a nice fit. Mind you, with the awful exchange rate it isn't what you might call a bargain!

MOMO steering wheel back from Royal today. Looks better than new and feels great. Still waiting on parts from Germany but the engine is fully stripped now. Have opted to go with forged pistons, along with the Schrick cams, alloy flywheel etc. Also waiting on new barrels being made for the wheels. Patience is a virtue I guess?

Loving the updates on this please keep them coming! It seems that forums have got a little quieter these days but stuff like this is exactly the reason why people should keep with them!

Well as we went with CP forged pistons so new rods seemed sensible. Still waiting on the timing chain and guides though.

The chance to change to AP's presented itself tody. The ABS has been deleted now, so a larger master cylinder is next, along with some rear AP's once I have saved for them.

Still loving all the work that is going into this. I think when it is "Finished" this will be the ultimate incarnation of a BMW M3!

Thanks. I wasn't sure anyone other than me was interested? I took a drive over to another E30 owner on the south coast (of Cornwall) yesterday afternoon. It was a lovely bright but bitterly cold day and despite not having been used in a few weeks the 318is fired straight up. It's such a nice car and is always fun to drive. It definitely needs a quicker steering rack though, so that'll have to go on the ''to do'' list for after the M3. The character of the 318is is very M3 like and it needs plenty of revs to get any performance from it. It thrives on revs though and just feels so nimble and light on its feet around the lanes. An LSD would be nice, as it can be pretty slippy at this time of year, but with the e46 or Z3 rack that'll be over £1k which I just don't have. The M3 is an expensive hobby and I can see why so many people opted to go s54 as opposed to tuning the s14! Even something basic like a timing chain and tensioner kit is over £700! Any other 16 valve 4 pot is about a quarter of that amount. Anyway, moan over. I'm lucky to have an M3 at all. Sandy Brown (who's going to be mapping the DTA management) finished the new, bespoke wiring harness and has included an auxiliary take off. It also has shift lights and cooling fan wiring. The OE harness I picked up yesterday will be stripped and donate things like the C101 plug and wiring for the starter, alternator and some gauges. Final change is a swap to centre lock wheels.

I generally feel like that about my build thread but I think with mine I am correct because it isn't in any way interesting and isn't even that old! This is the thread I have followed longer than any other on the whole internet!
