I have mixed feelings about retro revival designs. I think the Fiat 500 works but the VW Beetle doesn't.

if they touch the citroen 2Cv I'm gonna have to have something to say about it to those frenchie types at citroen.
I like, nay love the original little citroen in all its forms (dyane, Acadiane, mehari, ami etc etc) so citroen LEAVE IT ALONE, i don't want a plastic modern look a like thank you.
And i do think the fiat 500 is quite good too, but the mini and the beetle are pants.

The 2CV was a concept only, it was rather cool I thought. You're right it wouldn;t be the same though. Although I found this which really takes on the "dustbin" nickname of the original a little too far, maybe?

I have mixed feelings about retro revival designs. I think the Fiat 500 works but the VW Beetle doesn't. Wheras I take the opposite view. Have you SEEN a new 500 from behind? On the whole while I like some of the retro designs I think it's a shame that nobody in the auto industry seems to have the guts to produce genuinely striking designs. With the possible exception of Renault, they seem only able to produce spectacularly bland clones of their competitors cars or overpriced pastiches of what they were doing 40 years ago. I doubt designers have stopped being adventurous, it's the faceless grey people in the marketing departments who live in perpetual fear of slight negativity from a focus group. To put it another way, if the designers of 40 or 50 years ago had had the same restrictions put on them they'd have been reinterpreting the Ford Model T. Madness!

Have you SEEN a new 500 from behind? I've seen one in Italy. It looked at home. On the whole while I like some of the retro designs I think it's a shame that nobody in the auto industry seems to have the guts to produce genuinely striking designs. I agree. The Challenger is a case in point. Its a rehash of the 1970 design not an "inspired by" design. EG the new Camaro, which I think works very well.

Toyota's new ''hachiroku'' ft86 concept. Nothing like the ae86 but interesting boxer powered rwd layout nonetheless.

That gets a yes vote from me. If they build it so it is as truly small as it should be then its winner. Of course I also think it should really have rear leaf spring shackles hanging out the back of the car too... Another Ns, yesterday.

Another Ns, yesterday. I had a look around this one the other day and absolutely loved it, and was quite taken by the styling cues it obviously took from the Mini (the back end and bootlid especially). The concept ones looks really cool too, but I get scared of a new car that small ending up looking like a G-Wiz or something.. If they could produce it like it is there, it would be all kinds of lovely.

That ^^ new Capri is wibblepoo, but the 500 and the honda are nice. The Mini is okay, there's a nice one about here with offset thin green and red stripes over beige and some castrol livery. I like it! Some concepts of old models look quite nice but they take away from the original model and alot of the time make the original less special. Like D'man's Scirocco, when you tell people about it you get "Oh the new Scirocco?" and it kak!

Concept's quite good apart from it needs to be powered by a real engine and not milk-float powered.

Looks suspiciously like it'll interface with those funny segway chair things they featured on top gear, lol.
edit: except that was made by toyota.
Still looks like it xD
