yup, that sled shines. It looks delightful. Its a low gloss gloss job. It was probably more than 3 evenings and £30 to paint that. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Either that or its the original paint. Basecoat without clear will last about 20 minutes in the UK. They get away with it in California and such, on trailer queen cars, but not here. Use a satin clear or a low gloss clear. And to be pedantic, all cellulose IS lacquer. Not all lacquer is clear, not all clears are lacquer...

Use tins of halfords gloss black.....that hasn't got much shine to it! And yes.....get rid of the purple. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

I like it purple (not that I've seen it in the flesh). Personally I think that the black might look like the cop-out cover all it so often is whereas the purple looks deliberate. Some pinstriping might be nice though.

Even better. Someone on here rattle canned their S Class Merc Black and did quite a nice job of it. It's your car so I say go for it plus it'll give you a bit of extra experience using the paint gun and all that without putting on $$$ worth of expensive paint.
2 rolls of masking tape over the top before paint = Purple rally stripes ;D Maybe not

The fineline I mean not the rally stripes.

I think the problem with all this is that this is what you want : ![](http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_AgcG2BpVrJ4/SppHHykt57I/AAAAAAAADk8/R_4Q5g6oHmA/s1600/miami04%2Bcopia.jpg) on 3 days and £30 worth of paint, this is what you'll get, or something not far off it. ![](http://www.speedace.info/automotive_directory/car_images/vw_split_screen_van_matt_black.jpg) It would be more fitting to straighten out the purple to be honest, another blow over or two should even the colour out. Perhaps go a shade darker? Or still go black,.. but take some time/money and effort about it.

Also this : ![](http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_AgcG2BpVrJ4/SppHHykt57I/AAAAAAAADk8/R_4Q5g6oHmA/s1600/miami04%2Bcopia.jpg) Isn't cool because it is black, it could be bright pink and it'd look cool... it is cool because it is so damn low rolling on white walls. Perhaps 3 days and £30 could be spent getting your car as low as possible for right now. just' sayin'

I've been thinking about this.. I agree with whoever said it should be a purple so dark it's almost black..like an aubergine. ![](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fb/Aubergine.jpg)

I was probably eggarating with the £30 thing... but it wouldnt cost much in paint and it only took 3 days to do the purple.
I KNOW that car is cool because of the whole thing...but, mine should be lowered as soon as I can put some rubber on the original wheels - Ive got everything to do it ready
I'm not gonna just gash it on - that'd be stupid. Money permitting, it'll be slammed on whitebands, original trims & black by mid December
If I can slam it, with the whitebands and have it in the same 'knarley' black as that sled... would it be WIN?

Basecoat without clear will last about 20 minutes in the UK. They get away with it in California and such, on trailer queen cars, but not here. not if you use a 2K base with some activator in it about 4or 5:1 it helps to seal it and it should last a lot longer
