OK, a new job with a 65 mile a day commute means that I need a new ‘daily driver’ and as I can’t bring myself to sell my Beetle or my Mini, the T4 may have to go.
This is a 2001 (51 plate) SWB TDI T4. It’s an ex-AA van so has the more desirable 102 BHP 2.5 Turbo diesel engine with intercooler which means it will sit at 75 all day - and will go a fair bit quicker too ;-)
and still never does less than 40MPG.
Being ex-AA means it is a factory 5 seater (with seat belts front and rear) but the rear seats either fold flat or can be removed for more storage.

It has 12 months MOT and I’ve spent fortunes on it since I got it to get it into really good shape. It is incredibly reliable, starts first time, every time and pulls like a train![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

In the last 6 months it has had:
• Stainless steel side bars
• Brand new 18 inch alloy wheels with locking nuts and new 235/40 tyres
• 60mm lowered springs
• JVC CD player and Alpine speakers
• Reconditioned gearbox
• All the holes in the roof left when the AA removed their amber lights and aerials (4 of them!) professionally filled and the roof and lower panels re-sprayed (you have probably seen that many ex-AA vans still have the bottom 18” painted a nasty green colour)
• New heavy duty battery, engine tie bar, de-cat exhaust, window regulator and various odds and sods of trim replaced that were missing or grubby
• Last full service was in July ‘09
• The rear was been professionally boarded out and fully carpeted by T4 World
• Side and rear windows professionally limo tinted
• Funky new headlining![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

It’s done 175k miles, 160k of which was while with the AA. That may sound a lot if you don’t know T4’s but actually for these engines that is nothing. All the mileage I do is on the motorway and I guess it was the same story when the AA had it. I have a mate with one which has over 300k on and it is still going strong!

It’s got a tow bar with single electrics and I’ll throw in a two bike carrier which fits onto it.
I’ve got a printout of some of the service history from the AA and the last 3 MOT’s and bills / receipts for the bits I’ve had done.
The back has recently had all new carpeted panels and a new floor and I also have a bed base with removable legs which gives a 6’ single bed in the rear but you don’t lose the storage space like you would with a permanently fitted R and R bed. Just add an airbed for instant camping!

Bad bits – not much to speak of: a small (1.5 inch) dent in one rear door (been quoted £100 to fix and paint), the rear wipers have never worked since I had it but as the windows are tinted anyway I never worried about it!, the seats could do with a shampoo (no rips, just a bit grubby looking) and there are a few screw holes in the dash from AA radios / phones etc which have been removed.
I’ve done several long trips in this van and would trust it to take me anywhere.
Also available is a Just Kampers 4 person drive away awning which has only been used for 3 nights camping for an additional £150 and a set of standard steel wheels with excellent tyres for an additional £75 and a full set of 'Animal' camoflage waterproof seat covers for both front and the rear seat you can have for £50 (cost twice that a few weeks ago!)

not a great pic of awning but only one I can find...
Price is £3995
Van can be viewed in Woking or Gatwick most days
