Nice isn't it. I'm tight. I like my cars classy to look at and cheap, or just plain weird, but even I feel the need to splooge cash at that, then a bucket load more importing just about everything to make it Stupid fast and perfect for delivering from a the Tofu shop.

I am pretty sure that Keighley place* gets a lot of bad press on Scoobynet and a few other websites. The AE86 looks nice for the price.. didnt expect it to have air con though?
*the Trade Centre, not just Keighley in general..

everyone i talk to has something bad to say about keighley trade centre. seen them advertising a "mint" ae86 before...which actually had kinked chassis rails.

They're a bit dodgy methinks, I saw a Levin GT-Apex they had not too long ago, only judging some of it, it actually looked like the SR (awful SOHC 1.6 with soggy suspension) with a 4-AGE engine swap. They were advertising it as a proper GT-Apex jobby. I just thought could just be me - I was guessing it based on the fact that it had these small but official looking wheels I'd never seen before and no sideskirt/spoiler. Another big thing was the fact it was unmodified - unmodified AE86's are like gold dust whereas AE85's are either modified into an AE86 or binned.
Given that forum thread, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd picked it up in Japan for peanuts, swapped in the new engine themselves and sold it on for £2-3K profit.
As I say it's just me guessing, if I can find the pics of it I'll post them up, I think I saved them.

Crikey, doing some searches for them pulls up some amazing forum posts! "I rung em up and asked about the car ie: condition/milage/mods/history etc...the guy on the other end of the phone told me that the car was in "PERFECT" nik with a few "BASIC" mods and that there was "LOADS" of history with the car....n finally 31k "GENUINE" miles on the clock. So i thought this sounds good...just what I'm looking for ...So i drove 90 miles to view this motor!! When i arrived i spotted it straight away...the only Skyline on the pitch...well let me tell ya, It was the most twisted, scratched, wheel buckled, GTR i'd ever seen ..... they had "ZERO" history!!!...It had 40k miles!!!... the wheels were absolutly f*cked!!!... the front splitter was smashed to pieces!!!...it had been modded to the high hilt!!!..." "i went KIEGHLY TRADE CENTRE a bit ago and every car and i mean i looked at a lot, had damage on it, I'm a panel beater and see damage and things first and obviously on a car, most of the cars looked rough and it looked like every one of them had been in a bump and had been repaired sumwhere or other. 5of them, including 3 evos had lock damage and ignition damage, they said they had 7 nicked an got them all back again" "went there on wednesday, to look at two skylines they had a r33 gts, with extras and a r33 gtr both were sheds! the front of the bodykits were cracked and chipped, when i asked them about it the asian lad said thats how they get them as it is the way they drive them off the boat-incredible! the engine was pitted, interiors worn and this was in a gts that supposedly had 19000miles on the clock!, i just walked away." "ive been told of some stories of them (TM Imports) and keighley trade centre getting dodgy cars which are accident repaired and then making fake auction reports and selling them off as grade 4."

I love the AE86 and I'll try to get one one day but I'd always go for a J import. Every so often I check out www.carsensor.net (type Trueno or Skyline or Bluebird or whatever into the search box) for AE86s - there's loads. Charlie

Cheers. I had heard some reports about one or two of their cars being shady, but didn't realise it was near every one they sell.

What's the difference between the Trueno, Levin, Apex, AE85/86 etc etc? I've never really understood. And which ones did we get in the UK officially?

Trueno is flip up headlights, Levin is fixed headlights. AE85 is SR SOHC 1.6 engine non sports model, AE86 is the GT DOHC 1.6 sports model. GT-Apex is the best spec with electric windows etc., GT-V is less fancy interior spec but still all same mechanicals. All types come in 3 door and 2 door. Correct me if I'm wrong.

your right on all of the points exept the AE85 is only a 1500 funny enough for J specs , the GTV only had an LSD as optional extra so something to look out for if buy a gtv. also, if on a GT APEX the power steering breaks, its IMPOSSIBLE to turn the car at any less than 20mph, i spent guts of 10 mins trying to park it ;D

And there's a digital dash available that looks a lot like the old Celica Supra one. And here's a pic of the 2 door which seems to be a lot rarer here, shame because I think they look cooler! They also weigh a little less if I recall.
