anyone read james mays column in this months top gear? i think hes nailed the reason why people love retro cars. the short of it is that because of all the things wrong with retro cars, only the owner can actually drive it without stalling, crashing or having bits fall off.
obviously the old skool style of the retro cars plays some part but he does have a point. anyone else agree with him?

There's a lot of truth in what May says. I never used to have a problem people driving or passing harsh opinion on my non-retro cars, but I am most defensive when people drive let alone criticise my heaps.
The enjoyment of owning a 'retro car' is the sheer entertainment of wondering which bit needs adjusting, reattaching or further inspection. I know every knock and odd noise on the B310.....

I see that a couple of newspaper have been blowing the identity of the stig as Ben Collins this weekend! Apparently not even Clarkson new in case he got drunk and blurted it out, but that sounds like TV PR rubbish to me! Are we in for another Stig death now?

I've been a fan of James May from when he used to write a column for CAR magazine. Very well crafted, always witty and thought-provoking. I haven't read the article but I agree from reading the summary above. It doesn't matter what car I drive now, I *still* shift the gearlever into neutral and blip the accelerator as I pull up at traffic lights when I'm not really thinking, a legacy of a series of Minis with knackered choke cables that wouldn't stay out ;D Pegs worked but always ended up on the floor at the wrong moment!
