Ahh happy days. Just found a pic of an old car of mine. Parked(?) in the main street of Lusikisiki (in what was then Transkei I think!) It was definately some kind of Mitsubishi but I can't remember what. J-pickup heaven though!

looks like a early 80's Galant to me....or maybe a Londsdale?

Or a Sigma from the same period - never could work out what the difference was; someone please enlighten me!
Lonsdale - now there's a motoring blast from the past. Aussie-built Galants shipped here just in time ('83 was it?) for Mitsubishi to start marketing the newer one; mind you, Proton managed to do quite well in similar circumstances...perhaps Lonsdales weren't that cheap.

I think it was initially badged as a Galant from 1980 to 1984, but the Austrailian made Lonsdale was also imported for about a year in mid 1983, then in 1984 they were then badged as the Sigma - for a year. Then it disappeared. Then it cam back in 1991 as a completely different beast! A Mitsubishi Galant circa 1982. This is the 1991 version. Darren W? how about a piccy of the lonsdale in the 'daily express world car guide?'

Yup mine looked just like the first one, but it had four round headlamps on the front, maybe a South African market model. Boy was it a crud wagon, wallowey, dull, slow, but totally reliable, how Japanese!

Sigma was just what they called Galant in some markets. A mate had a tatty old Sigma years ago on which half the boot badge had fallen off to reveal other half of the Galant name.
Just had a quick look at my brochures - it started off as Sigma about 1976 with twin round headlights, then seems to have become Galant by time of facelift in 1980 (which also had a lovely turbo version). It became Sigma again about 1983/84 because these were the Australian imports, not Japanese models - I think they dropped selling them as Lonsdale by that time. It was replaced by a FWD saloon, of which Ratdat had one for towing duties.
Recently saw a picture of a late estate (1983-ish) with square front end and twin rectangular lights.
Oz-built Lonsdale/Sigma versions could be had with the 2.6 4-pot - as also used in Starion and Shogun?
Got lots of pictures here, but Paintshop's playing up at the moment......

This is the 1991 version. This is a Sigma, not a Galant. The 90's sigma is a bit bigger. And mega complex. And ultra obscure. Expect to see one in Mr_Bo11ox' fleet soon then...
