Ive never paid these any attention before, but I have a tape radio now that has cd changer control. Its a kenwood, early/mid 90's I guess. So, whats the deal with changers? How are they wired up? Where to put it? Will all changers work, or will it have to be a kenwood? Good ones, bad ones? Or, are they all bad LOL Etc Etc Etc Thanks ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

will need to be a compatible one with your headunit ...google the model number should help with that
most just have a single lead that runs to the changer
you can mount in the boot or glove box...or anywhere solid and dry

Ok, so there are compatibility issues.
I guess its not as simple as 'same make' compatability either?
Ill go get the model number and have a search.

I have a kenwood flip down tape player and a CD multi changer that I have just take out of my golf because I needed something that I can plug my Ipod into
Anyway my kenwood multi changer is good, doesn't skip CD's on bumpy roads or anything, I used to have it in the glove box so it was easyer to change CD's
I will be putting mine with the lead and head unit in the for sale section soon if your intrested?

My head unit is KRC 455L Had a bit of a search but don't know what I'm looking for. Any idea what changers will work? Is the headunit worth using? What era is it? It lights up green and is older than my current piece of junk, suits the MK2 dash better, but don't want to throw money at getting it set up if its no good. Would the clarion be better? ctistu2, looks a little modern for me but let me know the price ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

What changer is it? Just wondering if it will work with my headunit. Ive found reference to 'old style' and 'new style' and the 2 not being compatable, although they seem to use the same plugs ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) I know a KDC-C602 will work but i cant find one of those. Ive found a list of other 'old style' 10 disc changers that use the same magazines, maybe all those will work. No nearer on finding out about 6 disc though. Ive sent kenwood UK an e.mail too.

well, i opened it up. Theres a handfull of decent spec components inside so I'm guessing it wasnt too budget? I think some cap upgrades may happen as a matter of course though. On the plus side ive sussed out the tape wiring so i can hack the tape input for an MP3 lead. Ill disconnect the tape motor but to switch between ipod and radio ill have to insert a tape. Ill buy an iconic 1991 tape ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) So, all i need to do now is find out what changers are suitable ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

most clarion stuff is good. that looks quite excellent although a little overpriced. as for the leads it is a funny old game, trying to get a match. usually it's better buying as a set. can you post up a little pic of the back of the unit focussing on the lead connector?

Had this issue with my sisters last car, pretty sure that the plugs at the headunit end are different for the different generations.

I believe with Clarion (and I imagine with the others there is something similar) there was a change in the lettering of the of the headunit model number. (yours appears to be KRC 455L), I cannot remember what the changes are, but there was a letter that reffered to the headunit having a changer plug (I imagine that may be the L on yours) and that letter changed when the type of changer changed (on the Clarion I think it changed from R to S?)
