Well, this is comming back to life, got a new engine today, and some more suspension comming next week. Gone for 70mm spring (adjustable rear) and shock kit this time as I can replace the shocks when they leak unlike the last set of coilovers . Thought a decent normal kit would last better than my cheap coilies. MOT this month, a few bits already done- pads, shoes, wheel cylinders, fluid change, Rear wl b/rings, h/brake cable, Brakes feel realy good now , time to attack the suspension. I made the mistake of getting the tracking done last week, when I knew I was going to change the suspension and o/s track rod for the MOT, now that was a bit silly.. lots to do still... so ill get the camera charged for the weekend.

Well, suspension arrived. Got some new top mounts as well, because I want a few years use with this thing without having to touch it. (not going to happen is it )

Got it all built up but before I fitted it I scrubbed the inner arches out and painted the callipers . Was a b@rstard to get it to sit right, one side always wants to sit higher on this for some reason whaterver suspension is on it, as it has no rollbar so I'm wondering if the rear beam is a bit twisted. Also the camber is guess work and needs to be set as it now drives like a bucket pulling hard to the left. It is a fairly nice ride though considering the drop, no banging through pot holes ect.. ( i am aware there are no dustcovers on the rear in the pics, sorted now.. ;D) img237.imageshack.us/img237/2834/golfjobs001.jpg [/img]

New lump, mate dannys old engine, its been well cared for and has a new clutch, carb stat and other things. Mine has a knocking bottom end, noisy starter, heavy clutch and a thermostat seems to stay open forever. Front end off...

To my knowledge this car had only ever been touched by VAG dealers, so no missing clips ect.. We found clips and brackets on this we had never seen before and must have been missing off all the golfs we have had apart before. Engine out... img138.imageshack.us/img138/9739/engineswap009.jpg[/img]Engine bay dirty, but zero rot. We gave the bulkhead and legs a wipe before it went back together.

Ill just add, i didnt fully clean the bay as its coverd in the wax protectant. I'm not up for removing that as its the reason there is zero rot in the bay. Ok if the cars a show minter but this is a winter daily exposed to salt ect.

Lump in, bulkhead looking a bit nicer. May do more to bling the engine bay without removing the wax, maybe spray the rocker cover and clean some more.. Did have a problem, a savage water leak from the back of the engine, it turned out to be the metal pipe which runs along the back of the block, it had been fractured by us lugging the engine about I expect, anyway we swapped it with the one from the other engine and made a gasget. Then we fitted up the front and Danny went for a test drive as I was coverd in sh11t. I could tell he was exited by the 55 bhp on tap. All good, just a minor clutch cable adjustment needed. ;D

Think I saw this car in Milton Keynes a few weeks ok? Near the old Weatherspoons? Was looking very tidy if it's the same car, love the wheels!

Had a check round for the MOT, all I found was a worn track rod and a split CV boot. The Track rod (inner joint) was a real pain to change but the rod came with a new track rod too, win. More new bits... Passed first time, advisory on rear tyres. ;D

Now in the for sale section. Going to collect the steering wheel today too.
Done some minor damage to the nsf arch by driving off but forgetting to bolt the wheel on first, still trying to see the funny side... ill post a pic later and you can all mock me..

Yes mate, just joined. Great little car - put 3000 miles on her on the first couple of months but the head gasket went which was to be expected as I was nailing her up the M6 every week.
Apart from that, a new starter, 1 new headlight to match the other one and thats about it.
Retired to the garage now and only comes out occasionally so she's got an easy life. I'll get some snaps up at some point!
