Yeah, and I feel like Dorothy taking an angle grinder to the Tin Man.
I'm taking off anything I can use for the next one, selling some stuff, and the rolling shell will get a chance on ebay before I send whats left of him to the local scrappy.

Let me know what you're flogging when you know what you're getting rid of mate, not after anything in particular at the minute, but I might take some spare bits off you.

Apart from the manual gearbox parts, everything is up for grabs.

i have been watching this thread and i thought my project might be of some interest to you its a front engine dragster with an xjr6 engine using a megasquirt ecu i am running a zf hp22 gearbox at present but i would love to put a manual transmisson in it as i have to come off the start line on tickover as the power of the engine overpowers the brakes at any thing above 1000rpm,here is a link to you tube of me trying it out on a nice and easy run

I bet you all thought this car was dead right? Yeah me too. I really loved it as well, having travelled to Le man's in it in 2010. Everyone I know assumed it was long gone, which was a real shame as it held so many good memories. But it isn't dead. Not quite. It's wet, rusty, missing parts and needing major work, but it's still here. How do I know all this? Simple. I found it on eBay, bought it, and had it delivered to my workshop tonight. "Ropey" (as he has always been known) has a long road to recovery ahead, but he will live again.

That is fantastic! Rescued again!
The thread and story of this car was once the very main inspiration for my own project.
Thanks Phil !!!

Unless Phil spends a ton of money, its hopes aren't high - despite how much I like the car it was rough as a badgers nadgers when I let it go.
Front chassis legs were corroded (one side being buckled as it had cracked in front of the anti roll bar), the bulkhead was damaged by corrosion in three places, and the sills are covers that were bodged up by me and Phil to get it to Le Mans. The toebards have had it, the radius arm mounts were swelling, and the rear wings had separated from the inner arches.
Its a monumental amount of work before you even get into reviving him mechanically...
Sometimes things are better left as good memories.

I'm glad my moment of insanity with the XJR6 engine inspired so many. I am planning on revisiting the idea with my S3 in the future, its not been abandoned entirely.

Managed to buy a new old stock bonnet today, two rear door skins, rear arch repairs and radius arm panels. I already have a rear valance and tank covers so that helps.
I'm struggling to find Short wheel base sills and floors, but I'll keep looking. If I can't see any I'll buy Long wheel base ones and cut them down.
Once I have all the panels the weldathon can commence, quite a bit of stripping old unusable trim and bits and bobs to do first though. Got to get him ready for his June date at the bodyshop!
Exciting times!

It's a GT replica that I've had sat around for a while, it has a few small issues but essentially a good car. It's had new brakes, a respray, wheels, tyres etc etc etc. I just serviced it and MOT'd it and it's pretty good little car. The screen seal leaks a bit, and there are currently no carpets (didn't want to fit the new ones because of the leak!!)
It could be for sale, drop me a PM if you're seriously interested.

Nice Jag. I love the early XJ6's.
I was gonna ask about the Avenger as well. They're a great car, I've had loads of them over the years.
Anyway, great project. Bookmarked ;-)

I knew ropey through the XJ40 forum. Great to hear it will live once again. Seems like it is as rotten as my xj6, so well worth the restoration :-)

If ever a car had a soul and a spirit then Ropey must have one of the biggest- fighting, flashing, pumping, or whatever else that a spirit is supposed to do; maybe Sir William was right when he said building a car (Jag) was the closest thing we will ever create to something that is aliveā Please can I stand in line to join Ropey's fan club?

Also a huge inspiration in choosing my project engine! Great to see Ropey back in your hands and look forward to seeing/reading developments.
