Hey all. I recently fitted a pair of new front dampers to my 405 on monday as the ones that were on there were the original fit and were leaking profusely. However once I had fitted them I found tht the ride height had been goverened by the crappy dampers and the car was now sitting about 2 inches higher that it had been previously: I couldnt have that and Eibach springs are more that £100 a pair so I took the new struts off, removed the springs, chopped out 2 coils: and refitted it all. The result, I think anyway, is much better: Next stop, the Isle Of Mull ;D

I like it where it is, i'm not sure i could live with a mega low car as there are so many speed bumps where i live. I have to go over about 15 just to get to work

Now that makes me laugh, i put this post up on a 205 forum and got badly slated because they're still under the impression that cutting springs is bad. None of them can explain why though ;D

well... did you flatten off the edge after you cut it? and do they come free when the car is jacked up?

well... did you flatten off the edge after you cut it? and do they come free when the car is jacked up? Don't worry, it's all been done properly. I've done about 50 miles on it now some on rough roads and over a fair few speed bumps and it all seems fine.

Looks good to me shall be doing the same to the golf soon, was thinking a coil would do as like yourself surrounded by speed bumpage, maybe 2 coils is the way to go though, as said looks good . Has anyone any experience of doing this to mk3 golf? Anything to watch for like.

oooh 405, I miss those, never see them anymore over here (ireland), shame as they did lots of people good service. Lowness on that is good! Resisting cut springs on the sierra until I can get new dampers and rear bump stops

well... did you flatten off the edge after you cut it? and do they come free when the car is jacked up? The springs on our Merc are rediculously short and would happily drop out given half a chance. To prevent this we added some webbing straps to the front and welded some stops onto the rear to limit the downward travel of the bottom arms. Joe

B+ Must try harder go lower ;D Looks good anyway, nowt wrong with chopping springs. I took about four coils out of some springs on my golf, then noticed one of the removed coils said eibach on it Never had any issues in about 2-3000 miles that I used them though.

Eibach even paints lines on their springs to indicate the points where you can cut them to get to certain specs..
