how comes no one has ever put one of these: into one of these: Just a thought because my mate has the integra type r engine in a civic and in street trim has rum a 13.7. so surely a v-tec dragster would be great fun, different and even if your a V8 man like me you still have to admire the sound of a v-tec reving and 9,000rpm! Also another friend had a supercharger on his and was running 450 bhp. so is this engine a good candidate or am i just being an idiot? Not that I'm going to build one mind.

Don't the Honda engines spin the wrong way for a conventional rear drive axle?

they're a great engine i have one in my car! i guess its a torque thing, they don't exactly have it like a V8 does. a drag car would look a bit daft poodling along then starting to go fast when vtec kicks in, you need the speed from the get go really which you get from a V8. vtec is more suited to track driving

but thats the impression i was under as i know they don't make good torque but my mates run a 13.7 so surely in a slingshot/dragster would easily be 12's maybe 11's?

Just flip the axle upside down if the engine spins the wrong way round

Still you'd have to find a good gearbox that is happy spinning the wrong way round.
EDIT - Lol, thought of a REALLY good gearbox.
Use a Lenco, sun and planet jobby. With one of these, the last unit is the reverse. As each unit is independant of the other you have as many reverse gears as forward gears

I think the S2000 spins the correct way round as it goes so yeah. Are these the best choice for vtec engines?

It would be interesting. As said S2000 engine & box would be perfect. John Bing & John Attridge ran a Rover Turbo slingshot. Was a quick car, and once got all 4 wheels off the floor during a launch lol. Matt

even if your a V8 man like me you still have to admire the sound of a v-tec reving and 9,000rpm! Serious V8s will go to 12,000. You would also struggle to find a class to run a Honda powered rail in. Not too many people are keen on spending that much and not being able to compete anywhere. Thats not to say there aren't any alternate power rails out there SR20DET FJ20

its suprising then that their not more popular in the UK?
It was the beetle engined one in the rides section that started me thinking this. Maybe an alternative engine race series would be cool.

It really annoys me when people say vtecs don't make any torque, they make the correct amount of torque for the engine size My 1.8 Integra Type R Produces 127lb-ft a 1.8 Zetec produces 122lb-ft 1.8 ecotec is 129lb-ft So they do produce torque, its just peope compare them to engines that produce similar power So your really comparing a 1.8 16v to a 2.5 24v V6 lol

Plenty of big power B16/18 powered FWD drag car......... vtec is more suited to track driving Vtec is more suited to fast road driving. Screaming n/a rev when you want to drive hard, nice smooth tick over and decent fuel economy. If what I've been told is correct the Honda cars don't bother with Vtec, they just run lairy cams. If your on a race track in an n/a car which produces peak power at 8,500+ RPM, when are you ever going to drop below 6,000 rpm?

when I'm having a "spirited" drive in mine I change just as it taps 9k and the revs drop to just over 6k to its 100% in vtec, until it runs out of fuel haha
Off vtec its an entirely different car, return mid to high 30's to the gallon and is a sedate easy car to drive
