If you're keeping the original struts then you're limited to only lowering the front by an inch or so as there's a tendancy for the top mount to be punched out by the damper rod if you go any lower. You can't go far wrong with a set of Lotus steels but expect to pay a couple of hundred pounds for them if they're any good. Period alloys like Dunlops,BRMs,Cosmics,KN's etc all look good or as you say a set of Minilites or any of their numerous copies. Subtle mods like that shouldn't have any detrimental effects on it's value or it's desirability.

it was reatured in practical classics in 91 thanks for the picture, ive got the chrome stripes but now decided yet as i don't want to drill the bodywork,i might try and stick them back on,the smiths stick on heated screen is long gone ! don't suppose you have any more from the show?
as to modifing it,i had a saloon which was stock and i gradually changed it,milton suspension 1500Gt engine 2000e box and lotus steels I'm still thinking i might have to keep this one stock, its even running a dynamo and positive earth still it seems a shame to do too much to it
ill take a few more tonight and some of the lovely interior, its the nicest inside of any ive ever owned

As for the side strips - did they weld the holes or just fill them in ?? there not that bad a job to fit (just use masking tape as a guide and a drill depth gauge) IMO your wasting your time trying to stick the originals on .. You could try that plastic chrome strip, If fitted right and straight it don't look bad I had a 2 tone deluxe and couldn't find the middle strips in the end I used that stuff and no one picked up on it. Personally i'd just leave em off... As for mods it's your car do what suits ... The estates seem to have just dissapeared and as they never made that many in comparison to the saloon it's good to see a mint original one .. Did I hear somewhere that there is less estates known to the club than the van ??

not sure about the van being rarer, def worth more though, luckily i bought my van 9 yrs ago when they wernt so much money the side stripes i might leave off ,don't want to drill really,it had new door skins not sure about the wing and rear panel holes but id guess welded up I'm thinking of getting a signwriter do a thin silver pinstripe by hand that would be a bit different and not a rust trap like the side trims,i do have the full set but theres lots of other niggles to sort out yet 2 lower dynamo bolts fell out on the way home, lights are dip/full beam wrong way, couple of leaks and no speedo, might get the rims powercoated and take off the chrome beauty rings too didnt get time for the pics tonight as i was outside till dark fitting the dynamo back on

Can't blame you for not wanting the to drill for the side trim, would not be able to bring myself to do that if she were mine. Alas she's not mine and you do what you see fit. Having said that if you went with my earlier post of matt black, chrome venoms and rusty hood I think I'm not sure I could live with the guilt/shame of bringing it up......my bad. My 2p would be if anything go with the painted pinstripe but follow both swage lines in a kinda long v, not sure about the side trim in the early nineties pic seems to finish too short and looks odd following just one line. But hey what do I know

worry not,the earlier post about dropping it and matt black was not true I'm just going to get it all running for now,the original stripes i might get copied in paint, slightly longer and a little thinner , they bend up towards the wing top at the front
