Two CLASSIC rear wheel drive boxy saloons from the 70s, tweaked and tuned for maximum rally success and road-car gruntiness But which is best? Which is coolest? Which is more sorted out of the box? Which has more potential? For the FIAT I don't mean the box-arched Abarth special, just the 'cooking' Sport variant. Also, remember the golden rule: PICS PICS PICS!Info, specs, anecdotes, all welcome

Highly strung Italian rustbucket built by espresso-fuelled shoddy Europeans or reliable bulletproof spares-a-plenty mobile built by tall men in Essex?
Actually I love that orange Fiat and there's something about the RS2000 that just says "geezer" a bit too loud for me.

the rs2000 looked hideous, if you were taling about a mex or rs1800, then id be on the ford side of the fence, but as its the uglyier older brother, that had virtually no rallying success, then fiat it is

Are those 4-door droop-snoots 'genuine' RSs? Thought they were all 2 door?

I went for the 131, mainly because I've seen loads of escorts never many 131's the rarity appeals too me plus their always in funky 70's colors. Also my Dad (a non petrol head) owned countless Mk1/2 escorts as company cars but the only car he ever talks about was the company fiat 131 that he was given to use for 3 weeks ;D

At first your honour, i was blinkered to the antics of good ol essex boys, fiat shoddiness and this looks curse word IMO exibit A: but since asconadaz's evidence, exhibit B: Case closed. seen too many overpriced escys, and i had a big burrago model (read toy) one of these, potential is seen and the fiat wins! ;D

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
