Pinched off another forum....... "This morning I was in idle conversation with the sales manager at Crossflags in Dumfries (a BMW and MINI dealer) when I spotted what could only be a Triumph Mayflower in the furthest corner of the yard. I made mention of this and was told that it was 'a sad tale'. It had been traded in for a MINI under the scrappage scheme, and as disposal of scrappage cars is dealt with centrally by BMW GB, the dealer has no control over its fate."

I'd say so.. BMW GB probably realize that too. The owner wants his head boiling! I mean, I know its ugly, slow and probably breaks every single time you try to go anywhere in it, but a MINI? ffs. should have held out for a 3 series as a straight swap

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Something wrong here, the scrappage scheme was introduced to get rid of junk poluting the air this is definetly not one of them. Can't see this Triumph being a daily driver.
People drive for hours to go to shows to look at cars like these, it put's a smile on their face.
You cannot use a car older then 25 years in the American scrappage scheme, so real classics are saved from the crusher.

You cannot use a car older then 25 years in the American scrappage scheme, so real classics are saved from the crusher. The Government might have introduced the Scrappage Scheme under some pro-environmental smokescreen, but in reality it's got nothing to do with getting 'polluting old cars' off the roads, and everything to do with getting the new car market moving, whatever the cost. I'd have liked to have seen a clause like the one in the USA whereby (for example) vehicles which are Tax Exempt would not have been eligible, but the kind of ill thought-out curse word we have is what you get when you vote for a bunch of car-hating beard-stroking panty-waisted Socialist scum, insistent on destroying the moral, spiritual and now financial fabric of what used to make this country great. I hope you all remember things like this come Election Day. <gets off soapbox>

Yet another scrappage thread? Come on, it's happening, there's nothing we can do about it apart from NOT trading in your own retro/s and/or buying more.
