well I wasnt happy with the original plastice chassis on the clodbuster I have so I decided to buil.d my own scale tube chassis. this is after 6 hours work , the frame is 4mm rod from B&Q , its all TIG welded together. daft thing is its around a pound lighter than the plastic chassis. placed roughly inplace to get an idea of where its going to sit. this is the first chassis I have ever built. I'm after a full on race style monster truck. more pics to follow.

Clod axles on tube chassis perform really well, great rock climbers, get the batteries down low and they handle suprisingly well from what i've seen, My monster GT got seriously trounced by a home built one once, only beat him in our "off road challenge" in the end because i'd added an extra fuel tank he didn't know about so i didn't have to pit stop and i made it a loooooong challenge on purpose.

Aah this is going to be great. When I was a kid I had so many failed attempts at building a 'tube' chassis like this. Oh to have had the skills back then

abit more work , lower link brackets rear bracing cross bracing in roof area once the chassis is finished the body has got to stretched to fit the new wheelbase. would like to get the chassis powder coated once its finished , anybody know of a cheap powder coaters around birmingham that would do such a small job? ade

That looks really good
I once made a carbon fibre tube frame to take the running gear of a Losi MiniT but i couldn't get a good enough glue joint on some of the tube joints so it was a little fragile!
I didn't think about using metal tube lol.
As for power coating, not sure, but a good few coat of paint would work just as well i imagine

Wow! That chassis is really impressive! Did you make it from a set of plans or did you design the whole thing?

no plans , all in my head , designed it myslef as i went along , its 4mm steel rod which when scaled up would be 40mm in real life. correct size. its pretty solid , no twist in the chassis or frame work. latest updates are . front lower links turned from alloy and fitted with rod ends , link mounts made and tig`d onto chassis. as i currently now unemployed ( made redundant 25/09/09) and looking at going self employed i should get it finished pretty quickly. more pics as i take them. thanks for the positive comments , ade.

as promised more pics, tig welded a plate onto the bottom of the chassis to attach the links to. upper and lower links made from 8mm alliminium bar , cntre drilled and tapped to m4 , m4 studding fitted and rod ends screwed onto them. ends of the rod are turned down on my lathe to the diameter of the rod ends. still got to fit a mounting point in for the shocks , ride height not determined yet.
