my unkle is gonna weigh in his old gti as its been sitting for a year or so and he needs money. I'm thinking this is a sin so want to take it off his hands for the ton or so scrap value. i cant keep another car so need to shift it but not sure if its gonna sell as it it. its a mk 2 8 valve, met green 5 door. not bad condition and totally stock. its on steels with good tyres. needs a battery to run. no tax or ticket. litltle damage to one front wing but pretty straight otherwise. not sure about rust yet but didnt look like there was much. done about 116k i think... any ideas what it would sell for as it stands?

Not enough valves and too many doors to be desireable. You will struggle to sell it without mot and tax.

While I agree with the 'too many doors' comment, I must whole-heartedly disagree with the 'not enough valves' one! IMHO the 8v was, is & always will be a far superior lump! Better in standard form, better tuned, (& easier to tune!), just better! If your mate can be arsed, tell him to get it tidied up & MOT'd. Could get him a grand back, easy! I've got a 1st year, 3 door, 8 valve that, apart from a few engine tweaks, is totally standard & well straight! Failed MOT on a blowing zaust joint & it needs 1 bit of trim replacing & a polish. That's going up @ 2.5k under instruction of someone I don't even know who's quite high up in Club GTi APPT! ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)

After driving my 16v to death for 8 years I have to agree. 8v are better (slightly) of the line but "there is not substitute for multi valve technology" he he
More doors are much better when you have kids though! Specially after the seat cable snaps and they have to climb over to get in the back
