I had a job interview yesterday, and when I came home, the first thing I needed to do was to get out of the 3 piece suit and collar & tie, and of course get my shorts and sandals on...... thats the way I roll. When I had stripped off, and was about to put my garage shorts on, she squaked..... I thought one of the cats had either crapped on the bed (highly unlikely) or brought a kill into the bedroom. When I asked her what ?? he pointed at my ass and said.... "What happened there? " I checked in the mirror and found that Chads Farms wobbler 10 days ago had left a mark on my side, I probably did not leave the stones and tree roots unmarked either though. I had done a red oute after clearing a yellow, and managed to come unstuck from the bike at the top of the last loop before exiting section, but did not fall or stall the bike, but when I wheeled it around, my boots slipped on the flint stones and I thudded onto my side, bike still running and in hand. It throbbed a bit, and later I felt a lump in there somewhere, but gave it no further thought until Nicola saw it and commented that I really should consider stamp collecting or even crocheting. Said bruise. More progress...... now it is starting to feel like my place again. Spent about 8 hours in the garage today, did loads, even though it does not seem like much progress was made. I did not touch the garage over the weekend, or Monday when I had a second interview for a job. Looking inward. Looking outward. Tomorrow morning I have another interview at Gatwick Airport. Then hope to get home by about 3pm, and go do some more stuff in the garage. I still need to sort out my power tools as well.

Had two interviews today, one at 11.00 and one at 14.30 so only got home after 17.00 Went to the garage, started to undo and unpack the rear wall and move the 5 bicycles, some doors, timber etc out to make space for the 2x12 inch planks I wanted to get up just below the rafters, making space for some of my electrical tools to go to.. This was the staus at the end of a couple of hours, again, does not look like much, but it kept me busy for a while. Tomorrow will be a good day.

This was the end of play last night. Does not look like much, but I now have all solvents, spraypaints, petrol, diesel etc in the steel cabinet at the rear of the garage, also put up more shelves and a pin board yesterday. Unpacked the trailer of tools and "stuff" that has been stood out front of the garage since August last year. Today I need to rearrange all the power tools according to function and regularity of use. Last thing I did last night was to start putting up my collection of numberplates..... I used to have a collection of about 500 numberplates, but reduced it massively before moving out here. Raining all day today, so once the bikes are out the garage... no excuse not to get on with the process. I have many shelves of paint and wood treatments to clear and sort as well.

Right.... DONE !!! It took me Friday all day to sort the last of the garage out, to get stuff unpacked, onto the walls and into containers and cabinets. I managed to sort the various paints, varnishes and other surface coverings, oils for bikes cars etc out. Now it is packed by function, colour, use and a last shelf for all those pots of paint you will never use again. The CHERRY ON TOP is a FREE fridge I got from Dazzle Darren on UKGSER, picked up by my mate Lebowski when he went to fetch a new sofa in Guildford on Saturday. The fridge will live on top of the Freezer which Lebowski gave us as he has nogot any use for it. I also slippe some ply under the fridge to make a small "table top" for the kettle and coffee, tea sugar etc to go onto. I just need to electrify the area and then we are in business. Today i picked up some nice enamel advertising signs for £6 at the bootfair, which will go up soon. I also need to start unpacking my numberplate collection from around the world and fit them to the roof beams. This area will get tidied up a bit more soon. Next stop.... numberplates etc.

Started to mount my rather large (reduced from 500+ plates) numberplate collection. Still got a load of car plates to fit. Always looking for more plates to add to the collection, especially Euro plates, like Poland,Russia, Netherlands..... so if you have a donation to make... please feel free to send them my way. Sorry about the manky phone camera pic.

Well, I have been back in a job since 5th September, and what a change to my lifestyle. Most of you know by now that Nicola allows me loads of stuff most wives would kill their husbands for. A few weeks ago she pressurised me to sort the garage out. Now it is sorted she has started pressurising me to get the area outside sorted too. This constituted having the old concrete slab broken up, and removed. New block paving laid down, some small walls rebuilt and also getting a 10x8 foot shed built. Yesterday the paving guy came with 2 guys...... They started with the area as cleared by Nicola and I on Sunday. Spray painted lines show where the new base for the shed will be built up to. By last night this was the scene accross the road. With this lot on the front driveway entrance. By evening this was where they had got to. By tonight the new wall and base for the shed was ready, a few tons of sand down on top of the hardcore and a 6mm armoured electric cable laid from 3 meter into the shed space to 2 meters past the garage, so as to get decent electricity into the new shed. And by 3pm the paving blocks/bricks were being delivered. Looking forward to another productive day, and hopefully paving stones all down and cropped. 2 days worth of updates in one then. The shed will be here on the 10th October, after which I will get it sorted, and ready to start building another teardrop caravan. Winter will see me out the house more than inside it, hopefully.

Congratulations on the new job Hi Tony, Thanks !! I must say, the new job is a tough one, but exactly what I wanted. Being unemployed is nice for a while, but I soon ran out of stuff to do. Money is helpfull too.

Congratulations on the new job +1, great news Rian........Workspace is looking dandy too. ;D Thanks mate. One can only stay busy with projects at home for so long, then you need to get back to earning a crust and keeping your mind occupied. That said, being home was great for me and the cats, and Nicola loved having me home when she gets home at 1pm daily.

Only going to post one pic of the completed drive/parking. The paving guy delivered on the agreement, and I was happy to pay him. Still a few things to do, which I will do as I get to them. Ordered a 10x8 foot workshop, delivery and construction date 10th October. Also laid an armoured 6mm cable to get electricity to the shed, and a distribution box for it.

Nice work there mate. The block paving looks much nicer than the old patchy concrete.
Shame I couldn't help with the design of the block workshop, but from our breif conversation, I think the timber shed is right thing to do. Are you planning to insulate the shed once it is up? I insulated my workshop with 35 mm of mineral wool, but it would have been better if I used EPS. It has made a huge difference though. Cool enough in the summer now, and a little 1.5 kw oil rad keeps it warm enough in the winter months.

What is EPS ? I had planned on sticking polystyrene in the roof with thin ply ober it. The sides should get something too.

Grizz, EPS is the propper name (well acronim) for polystyrene.
Wickes etc do 25 and 50 mm thick 600x2400mm sheets or EPS very cheep.

You said you collect number plate I may have an old Irish one some where if you want it you can have it that's if I find it still Hi mate, I do collect plates and would happily have it off you, I do not know what they used to look like, so when you find it, maybe PM me a pic or post it on here. I still have about 150 to fit to the roof of the garage ;D I guess the post below is relevant, as it fits in with the garage thread and teardrop builds, so it is a duplicate off the Surf-Pod threads posting. In other news, I just splurged £226.00 on a machine for the woodwork room. It will also come in usefully for the new teardrop build and some other things I get up to. Most importantly, it will keep me out from under Nicola's feet during winter. Now I will have to build a small log burner for the woodwork shed as well, to keep me warm when banished there. I have been wanting to get back into woodwork, and more specifically lathe work, and more artisitc wood turning for some time now. I used to do a lot of it years ago. Once again, Nicola came to the rescue, telling me "Just buy a bloody lathe man ! Get on with it" Only payment she wants for it is a take out Chinese dinner. Lucky me, or what. I have realised while researching that many modern lathes are lightweight, and often not very versatile, while the older machines from the 50's 60's and even 70's were built with cast parts and durability are the forefront of design. The offering from Toolshop/toolmart/machineshop.com and others was significantly inferior. With this in mind I started looking at the Myford ML8 and other similar oldskool lathes..... prices , if you got the right machine were less than an inferior new machine. Some of the 50's and 60's machines also came with various attachments , and one of the things I wanted was to be able to do both inside and outside turning, so one could do a 24 inch wooden plate or bowl on the outside of the machine. Today was just browsing Ebay, as you do and saw a Coronet Major Wood turning lathe, circular saw, thicknesser/planer in the last 15 minutes of its bidding, 18 bids, up to £185.00 So I quickly Googled some reviews and saw it was more than I wanted. Called the seller to check more info and bid while speaking to kim, with 20 seconds to spare. This is what they look like. The one I have bought comes with its own bench and a load of tools as well. The one I have bought is a lot more dusty and on a different bench. Thicknesser/planer and circular saw on side. Now I just need to go collect it. And wait for the new woodwork shed to be built, then we are in business.

Was moving stuff about the garage over the weekend including the teardrop, then decided to put up most of my number plate collection. Apology first. Pics taken with my mobile phone. Hope you get the idea. I have a few more to put up. Hope to get some more American plates, and also more weird metal signs. Number plates do make me smile, especially as I know the history of many of them. A few motorbike plates.
