I know somebody that worked at Camden Council in the enforcement section (parking and bus lanes), and I think he said nearly half the tickets were cancelled after reasonable contact/correspondance from the victim... I mean offender Not sure if that means that the issuing of tickets is over-zealous, or that they were a reasonable lot in the office... or combination of both. He certainly is a nice 'pro-car' bloke, not some lentilist tree-hugger. Just write a nice polite letter stating your case 'Cos he also said that the more irrate and and abusive, the less likely the person was to have a legimate defence - the genuine cases usually being nice and polite, who were often surprised when treated the same way and told that it would be cancelled forthwith with no arguement. Cheers, Phil

It's an old post I know but I thought that you might like to know that today, after about 6 letters and having to attend an appeal hearing in London with the Parking and Traffic Appeals Service, my appeal was finally upheld and the council were told that they were wrong. Hey, it's only taken 8 months to sort out.

I won't be there when you cross the road, so always use the Green Cross Code.

Got a speading fine through the once on my dad's motor while he was on holiday thought i was well in for it. Checked the time and the road it was meant to be and i'd got back from a show that night and was no where near there.
Outcome was going to main police hq in brum to view the picture, when i saw it i laughed at the copper and asked him if they should get people with eye's sending out fines. They had put the reg in wrong and not realised that a blue rover 400 is not the silver 206 in the picture.
Morale of the story is always contest things unless you know you really are bang to rights.

Write back to them now - polite but firm - and charge them for your costs adding the recent hearing costs.
And enclose a bill for you time and trouble (inc cost of paper envolope and stamp) £100 - point out that prompt payment within 7 days discounts the bill to £50.....
They'll pay it too ;D

Good advice as ever BC. I'm involved in a bunch of complaint letters due to daft stuff like this. Glad you got it sorted. Randomly I owe Inland Rev 3,300.00 quid when i owe nowt, to help matters they delivered red letters to a flat i never lived at! Also on saturday my insurance on an ins group 8 car went up by over 140 quid just cos I moved to a nice area with private car park i can't ever afford to buy in FFS. when did things get so fuggin complicated!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I get about half a dozen parking fines a year up in london delivering with a hiab lorry, numpties give you a ticket whilst your working with the crane, challenge them all and win most as they send it to an independent arbitrator who reviews the case, so always worth challenging helps if you have copys of delivery notes etc.

Not in london you ain't, had one once for parking in a bus stop, but only the bumper was over the yellow line not my wheels so took some photos and challenge it and won, they never listen to reason even when they see you are unloading machinery into a shop or building.
