I think they can only technically be fitted to pre-1973 motors. Thereabouts anyway.
Like German-style plates or ones with an italic typeface or whatever, you can have them on your car but you run the risk of attracting the attention of Plod and a £30 fine...

I think they can only technically be fitted to pre-1973 motors. 10 points to darren, as far as i know this is correct only 73 and earlier cars can legally use black background plates, and yes my vitesse, if i ever get it done will have a black background plate as it did from new on the rear WEST

www.idlegear.co.uk/c_numberplates.htmI got some from these guys for my mk1. They had an auction on ebay. Was £24 delivered. Apparently if you mention ebay you'll get a 25% discount. The plates were pretty good too.

legally tax exempt only, so built prior to 1.1.1973 although i've seen brand new 4x4s wearing 'em around here.

Could be wrong but if you went down the ponsey road of a pre 73 privat plate, i THINK you could have black ones then.
So what if it was USA shaped but Uk colours, same idae as german plates?
I'v ebeen spoilt being invisible in the sapph, don't know if i could handle being pulled over again!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
