Why has that guy binned off his 4-AGE motor in favour of a turbo’d beetle lump? Yuck. It does seem strange, but if the drag classes are set out a certain way then it would make sense. It's like the VW engined Fiats (500, 600, X/19) with VW motors. You can still race in the VW classes, but you've got a mid-engined layout and (probably) improved aerodynamics. It's not a good move for an MR2...but it's a good upgrade for a Beetle...mid engine, proper brakes/suspension...that could cost you a fortune!

I looked at buying one when I bought the Rocco - problem is finding one with low miles / no to little rust!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Probably a nice little car, in my opinion they look better than the X1/9 and they're certainly more reliable. They're a seriously overlooked car, aren't they, I can't remember when I last saw a modded one in the flesh.

I'd love one if I could find one without rusty rear arches. You can get two tone paint too, I love two tone. I love them standard, those cheesy wheels are great.

I drove a mate's one many years back - Dark blue, T bar, leather seats - lovely car to drive. Gave it a bit of spirited driving round an airfield and was very impressed with the tight feel and handling - unfortunately i did find that while you can control them when slightly sideways there comes a point when no amount of arm twirling saves you from a tank slapper, screeching tyres and a quick off-road session. Got back to find my mate on the floor in tears with laughter - he hadn't seen what happened but heard it all and they were taking bets on how muddy the car would be when i came back...

AH ha the aw11! what a wonderful small car, i work for a toyota dealer and i have only seen one in the workshop, that was a MINt, and when i say mint i mean extra strong MINT!! no rust atall, waxoyl'd underneath, supurb condition wheels. The bloke really loves it and spends lots of money on it regularly in the parts department.
one of the technicians that worked there before has a k-reg starlet turbo, but not no ordinary turbo! he put a turbo of of a skyline onto it. when it was dyno'd it put out 190 at the block, 160 at the wheels! it put out something silly like 170 lb of torque, he says that it will wheel spin in 4th gear at 90 if you boot it! but the best thing about it is the fact the exhaust comes straight off the turbo and comes out under the front vallance!
And all of this out of a 1.3!
