After seeing Stealthstylz dig out his RC car, it reminded me of mine that I had when I was a youngun (like 11-13ish). A good 15 years ago.
So a ferret around in the loft led to me finding it in the furthest back corner, on top of my old lego tub I don't think Id seen since the same time! ;D
Note Beatties bag! Do they still exist?! and assembly manual!
So I pulled her out. She looked in rough shape, being put away having only been half rebuilt since a big smack many moons ago. I broke the front subframe to pieces on a jump, the car veered off pulled the front right suspension off and landed in a hedgerow. Id got the parts so it was on all 4, but it had then been put away.
The front steering link bar had been replaced with 2 bent paperclips(! I was a bodger at an early age apparently!) and one diff output flange was missing (presumably in the hedge somewhere!), meaning the car was basically 2wd.
So I got her out and took the battery out and started charging! This reminded me of why it never got much use, took over 10 hours to charge the battery! Why didnt I buy a fast charger back in the day? Would of gotten so much more use out of the old girl.
I found the controller still had batteries in (8 corroded old skool alkaline ones) that STILL had enough charge to pop the power meter over halfway 15 years!
So I put it in my rucksack and popped down to the local woods where Id always wanted to take the car when I was younger but never did. Was great fun, but the massive amounts of leaf matter and the lack of 4wd meant it was a real struggle to get anywhere.
But it was a good laugh, so I popped on ebay, found the spares I needed and ordered a fast charger.
Whilst googling, found this one youtube....
Charger came this morning, so it charged my battery in 1.5 hours! And that was on the slower setting! To celebrate I took the car out onto the road in front of my house.
I was having great fun rocking up and down the grassy verge and along the tarmac. Sadly, it all went a bit wrong. I hadnt put the bumper back on as I was going to fit the gearbox part this afternoon, and I wasnt doing anything "crazy" with it so I thought itd be ok. However, going full wack, got a bit out of shape, bounced about, hit the kerb smack on the nose "KERACK!!"
"uh-oh" I thought.
Ran over..... feck Id cracked the chassis at the front, only 1 screw was holding the front gearbox on and stopping it from splitting in 2, there had been enough bend in the chassis that the propshaft had jumped out!
Point of Impact
I'm hoping the almighty god of superglue will come to my rescue on this one! with some braces over the cracked areas Any tips?
