After selling my beloved Supra retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=FSW&thread=64597&page=1 I needed a cheap to run retro, preferably RWD. After looking through RR's classifieds I spotted this Carlton fairly nearby and after a phone call, was picking it up that evening! Its a 1993 with the 2litre 8valve engine with about 140k on the clocks. Came with nearly a years ticket, a fair bit of tax and recent cambelt change. Within a day or so the grill and all badges had been attacked with a can of Satin black, as had the centres of the wheels. I left the lips silver and will get them polished up when I have time. Plans for the future are an exhaust system of some description and hit hard with the stick. As its kind of tatty round the edges I might go for a rat/VIP look as I love the look of big slammed saloons. If anyone in the Worcestershire/Warwickshire region fancies lending a fellow RRer a hand chopping the springs (never done it before) there will be muchos beer involved! Here's some pics: ![](http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o229/phil_h_2006/DSC01057.jpg) ![](http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o229/phil_h_2006/DSC01059.jpg) ![](http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o229/phil_h_2006/DSC01060.jpg) ![](http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o229/phil_h_2006/DSC01058.jpg)

I must be tired... Sorry, but this was the most disappointing thread ever.
Why?
Because I, for some reason read it wrong and saw "Lotus Carlton" when I clicked on the thread ;D
Nothing wrong with this though... I like carltons.

Carltons are great old barges, I reckon that late 80's baby Caprice shape would lend itself well to a road-legal NASCAR race rep. Think satin black steels, a massive slam and some suitable graphics: ![](http://farm1.static.flickr.com/104/309939910_17202c810c_b.jpg) It's a long way from a Carlton to that, but not a particularly expensive one. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

Cheers for the positive feedback guys. Nice idea briandamaged, wouldn't be too hard toachieve either but think its going to get the rat-VIP look. Also playing with the idea of a side exit exhaust... Highboy coupe...Cheers, you wouldn't catch me rolling in anything like a Saxo/106, strictly RWD and bargetastic here ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Satin black paintjob is commencing as of this week as I have a weeks leave - I know its been done and all that but in my head the plan for this car has always been satin black. Still looking for help with hitting it with the stick as I don't have the tools/space or know-how, and long term plans have been extended to big black banded steels and rivet on arches

I bought some NOS sierra lowering springs from www.tuning.co.uk for £39 for all four springs including delivery. The guy told me that they had bought up a load of liquidated stock very cheap and they were selling all the old model stuff off cheap. Don't know whether there was any Carlton springs cos I didn't ask but could be worth a try. Always better replacing springs rather than chopping them especially if you are planning lots of 'sideways' motion.

Bit of an update on the Carlton, forgot this thread was up. In November last year, was on a weekends leave and taking a corner near my house that i must have been round thousands of times i hit what the police think was diesel on the road, bounced off two kerbs, then careered up an embankment through two hedges and hit a tree! Cue, the fire service having to cut my roof and doors off to get me out. I was pretty much unconscious at this stage so don't remember that much about the accident at all, but according to the police the car was about 2 feet shorter than it should have been at both ends and bits of debris were 50metres down the road. In short the fire service said that the size of the car had pretty much saved my legs from being crushed and being more seriously injured, so I'm pretty lucky to be in one piece! Had some nasty whiplash till very recently and was sore for a while but fully ok now, no pictures I'm afraid as I said I was out of it , and the police took my car away while I was at the hospital. Moral of the story is take care people! RIP Carlton, she has been replaced with an E-reg 525i now, back to a 6cyl!
