Looking around for a 60's/70's car to do some rallying in, and last weekend I stumbled across this at Tatton Park! Fell in love and soon made the deal! Here's a few pics!! loving the retro patterned inner door panels! Sports steering wheel and Russian gauges!!! Period choons! plans are afoot! First up is to change the tyres. They are the originals!! (she has 21k on the clock!!) Either Yokohama AO21r or Bridgestone Extreme. Electronic ignition, Down draught weber carb (does anyone know of a suitable comparable car in which I might be able to source a cheap carb from???) Custom exhaust, slightly larger bore. K&N Air filter. Roll cage Sump guard!!! replace/change rear shocks. maybe lighten the flywheel. relocate spare wheel to centre of boot. everything else to be kept as standard!! My friends Dad has volunteered to be my Navi on my first trip, which is a novice night rally at the end of November so better make a start! Also looking out for a set of 4 x 98 13" miniltes.

Very sweet looking car there sir.
One thing i would avoid the yoko's in november, they only work when it's dry and warm from past experience. ;D
|
|
Low and slow
Why can't i tune it?

I know you will think i am mad but on something that light for wet and winter use, also remember a bit of slip saves the diff. I would look at falken or khumo, think falken is ze912 and khumo is the ecsta. Run both before and performed admiraly.

I had a W reg one in red with a black roof, alloys, door speakers, Don't think mine was an es, as it was not quite as good as yours. Not a bad car though, apart from the steering

The AO21's were suggested by a friend of mine who rallies a Chevette but open to suggestions by anyone who has experiences of other makes.

That's like a little slice of the 70's! The Clunk-Click badge is fantastic, finishes it off nicely for me.

Nice one - are those OZ wheels? they are the original alloys fitted to the 1600es model. Was going down the refub route but looking at a set of 13" mag minilites instead now.

I am jealous. If you change the wheels, I'd be interested in the originals, first dibs please! (Also on the whole car!) The 1600 is the best of the bunch. Have fun!
