I've managed to talk Mrs P-M into coming along on a camping holiday around the South East of England - something of an undiscovered country for me. Even better, she's agreed to us taking the Fasty rather than the sensible (modern, diesel, spacious) Panda. We're spending a few days in our tent based near Sevenoaks, then a few days near Folkestone, before touring up the coast road back to the IOW. She gets to go to Chartwell and Dover Castle, I get to go to the DTM series race at Brands Hatch ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) So retroisti, can you help: Anything else we really must see in Kent on our roadtrip old vehicle or engineering related? Any RR meets planned for between the 5th and 10th in the area? . ..and who can recommend the best way to 'do' the Indy Circuit? Tickets arent cheap, should we shell out for a grandstand (and if so paddock hill or the pit straight?) DTM@ Brands Hatch 2008 ![](http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j168/alcaponeuk/amg_dtm_2.jpg) Trusty steed: ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/mdaw2/Retro%20Rides%20Gathering%202009/P8150040.jpg)

Strangely enough I've just come back from down that way, non-retro transport though. There are loads of cars parked up roadside, try to keep your eyes on the road ;D; notables were a Mk1 Golf convertible on BBS alloys in a hospital grounds near Hythe (on the coast road), heading from Dymchurch towards Rye theres a Citroen GS and a Renault ? parked up in a garage, some Renault 4 vans on the way to Dungeness, loadsa Porsche 924/944, Nissan Figaros everywhere, some big yank barges stashed near Dymchurch..... BMW 2002 in Dover Castle carpark (!) and keep your eyes peeled for Dutch/Belgian stuff, they do like their retros and they do use 'em! Oh, beware the bloody great speed bumps...... ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)

hhmmmmmmmm south east attractions..... well if you are in Sevenoaks it would be rude not to go and pop into the Ferrari and Maserati dealership, just outside the high street ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Oh and the grounds of Knowle Park are lovely if the weather is good, just watch out for the deer!! As for brands you can see everything from the pit straight stand if its the indy circuit. Only bit you cant see as well is the hairpin up at Paddock cos the trees are in the way, but nothing ever happens there!?!?! lol If it were me I would wander round as you get a pretty good view just round he side of the grandstand as the cars fly through the first corner, or from the banks near the last corner. That said I have only been when its the smaller race series so the grandstands were free anyway. pics fron the 750mcc race series (pit straight grandstand) ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/skinnylew/Brands%20Stock%20Hatch/Brandswkend032.jpg) ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/skinnylew/Brands%20Stock%20Hatch/Brandswkend010.jpg) ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/skinnylew/Brands%20Stock%20Hatch/Brandswkend017.jpg) gives you some indication of how good the view is from there ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) As for anything else car related in the South East I have no idea, I'm actually interested if there is anything that I should have been and seen!! edit; Lydden Hill near canterbury is the other south east motorsport venue, might be worth a nosey??!!?

Maybe we could arrange a one-off Kent meet to coincide with your visit? I recently stayed at a campsite in Abbeywood which was lovely and means you could do some London stuff too.

A couple of years back it was a local 'game' to redirect the signs to the Abbeywood campsite so that if you followed them you ended up at the council run 'Travellers' site.

dungeness is worth heading down to, youll find some strange stuff there including the worlds smallest public steam railway and a couple of retro caravans, were talking proper retro not your average 70's monza caravan. theres an aluminium one and a mork and mindy egg type one. if you go out in the marsh you will find more strange stuff, 3 more alu caravans that i know of and a 50's ford pop sat abandoned plus loads more.
there are quite alot of retros about that area but they're not everywhere, you may see one or two on your journey through.
theres the speed trails on brighton seafront which i think coincides with your trip.
bentley motor museum in east sussex nearish eastbourne is also worth a look in/

Lydden Hill Circuit is SUPERB - a proper old-school clubman's circuit (they still have an old double decker bus as the commentry box). Well worth checking out...

Horrid horrid place, mind you over the road isnt exactly that much better lol. However if you stay this side of the railway (south side) its not bad really. Ive heard the campsite is very nice, the woods and abbey over the road are very very pleasant to walk in. We've fenced it all off now as well so the quads and motorbikes are struggling to get in ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Thanks guys for the fantastically helpful responses. Based on skinnylew and Speedman, I've not bothered with Grandstand tickets. The idea of wandering around is more appealing and we've got fold-up chairs if we want to sit down. re: Brighton Speed trials - yes I'd love to go, but we're back on Wight for that weekend as we've got a url=www.bestival.net]Bestival[/url] to go to (this is one of the reasons our "summer" holiday is a tent in Kent) Maybe we could arrange a one-off Kent meet to coincide with your visit? One-off Kent meet sounds awesome. Campsites already sorted - so I can see the problem will be we're only in Sevenoaks Friday the 4th to Sunday the 6th, and we've got stuff planned during the day - is anyone going to want to meet up on a weekend evening? We're then on the East Side (Folkestone) 7th 8th and 9th - but I'd guess this may be a bit far for peeps more London based Also on the list: Spotting (Mrs P-M in charge of photography). Italian Car Dealers Dungeness Bentley museum @ Eastbourne We discussed Leeds Castle, but we've not got enough time in 6 days to enjoy all of Kent it seems... Thanks again to all for helpful advice - knew I'd get it here. ![](http://www.drift-demo.com/yourpics/Brands_Hatch.jpg) Retro DTM? ![](http://www.autobild.de/artikel/bilder/audi-a6-57708914_1bbefe9d8b.jpg)

If your staying near sevenoaks, saturday night head down the A21 to Hastings. Get your dinner from The Ambassador(along the sea front), play some crazy golf and loose all your monies in the arcades. WIN
