I thought I would do a bit of a show and tell. I was going to put up an individual thread or 2 up about some of my other tat that isnt cars, so I thought I may as well cover everything in one post...... that and my workshop is getting to the point where I'm happy with how its set up, so I thought id let you all in........
this is my workshop, which is near colchester. I took the tough decision of sacrificing a 1/10th of my space to put in a small flat with bed/kitchen/bathroom etc. so me and the dog now live here too.
I made the flat out of the insulated walls of an old cold store, they're 4'x8' panels with a 2"x4" timber frame filled with polystyrene blocks and skinned in plastic dipped steel sheet each side, which makes it toasty warm in winter (helped by a gas bottle wood burner) and nice and cool in summer. the floor is 2" thick polystyrene under the floorboards, and the roof has another 4" of polystyrene between the rafters too, so its better insulated than most houses. this means me and all my curse word are mostly in the same place and I save on commuting and fuel and rent for a house id never use by living elsewhere.
yes, I obviously have a pretty laid-back landlord!
my workshop itself is about 1200 squ. ft, filled with all the tat I womble on my travels. ile pick up any old curse word out of skips and off the street if I think itll be useful, not to mention everything from charity shops, car boot sales and garage sales. theres quite a few pushbikes, skateboards, old radios, interesting/old tooling- anything I been worth saving or think could be useful.
as for cars, currently in and around my workshop ive got a '28 model A ford hotrod, a volvo 343 drift car with a reno clio 16v, a 200sx project, a p100, a '49 beetle, a 72 beetle, a slammed caddy pickup on alleycats, a mercedes e class estate, and have just started chopping up a rs125 to make a bobber that rideable on a car licence with CBT as I havent done my bike licence yet. then theres 3 other peoples cars here too for various semi-long term builds, one a totally stock resto, 2 very wildy customised.
pics you say? heres a little guided tour( these pics are a few weeks old so loads of things have changed now!
ive got a few heaps sat outside( a few too many actually, luckily my landlords fairly understanding!) the f150 is now gone to another member on here.
ypu are now entering dez' tat emporium- the white ae86 at the front belongs to a mate, he crashed it pretty hard drifting so ive been rebuilding the entire front end of the chassis, which is now done, as well as finishing up a few bits of rust repair at the same time and flaring the rear arches  its now back on the road.
a small 'office area' on the right, just out of picture to the right is the utility room with sink, compressor, electric, water and gas supplies, etc. as you can see, lots of parts stashed away! ive actually now painted the entire floor in this end bay now the '86 is out, and put up more shelving.
my baby- a 1928 ford model A 2 door sedan. ive had this about 3 years now, dragged it from yorkshire all the way to ipswich when I moved away from home, then again from ipswich to colchester when I split up with my ex- she sure as hell wasnt getting it! a few of you will have seen the build thread on here.
thats my flat through the door, with vee the vicious guard terrier and mouse killer on the mooch.
the cabrio beetle on top I'm restoring for a friend, the bug underneath ive roof chopped 5.5" for someone else, and is pretty much finished and ready to leave too. more random tat that needs to be tidied up all around it!
ive actually been in this workshop over a year now, and on this site for over 2, and its just about getting to the point where I like the setup ive got. just gotta get a ramp and a lathe in, and ile spend even more time here!
