Allright kids, well this weekend i picked up a new ride for my girlfriend, as she is fed up of asking me or my housemate to drive her around, she has been begging me for a scooter for ages, so when i showed her this, she said she loved it, and i bought it for her, its a Honda Stream (1981 i think..), it was last on the road in 91, and has been kept in a garage, its totally complete, just needs fettling, and painting. yesterday i bought a battery for it, plugged it in, and all the electrics work! not even a bulb gone!! result!!! i took the tank out, flushed it out, there was a bit of curse word in there, but not too bad, and also drained the oil tank and put some fresh in. pressed the starter, and it fired up!!! its running rough, but runs, so thats a result! Last night i wire wheeled the underside, and gave it some coats of hammerite, i then pumped the frame with oil. anyways this is what it looked like when it was new. www.zwotakt.de/Roller/Honda_Stream/InfoundBilder.html

well I dunno about sucess, as these are very rare, and there is a reason for it, they were twice the price of a normal scooter. so they didnt sell too well. my dad remembers the ariels, and he said they were curse word, mostly due to the motor.
it looks like a spaz charriot without the rear engine/wheel cover, don't you think? lol

I wouldn't quite call the Honda Stream a success. It is however a well designed and reliable machine which I am told the Ariel3 wasn't. I'm old enough to have been alive when Ariel3s were produced, however I can't remember seeing one as a pre-primary-school youngster.

My mum had an Ariel 3. Dad never got it going though. Used to try pedaling it up the road. Was a heavy old thing to pedal. Dad sold it.
Mum also had a Pashley Picador trike. I would ride about on that. Once while riding in front of the house, I had to go up on 2 wheels to get past my brothers Mk1 Escort and a car coming up the road. Quite easy to get one rear wheel off the road. Near impossible to get the front one airbourne. Also it had a sort of parking brake on the left lever. Always worried that it would click on while using the brake. But then again. The drum and centrepull front brakes werent upto much.

Hi Rob.
Don't normally look at this site much and am please to see you are happy with the Stream. Told you that I thought it was just fuel problem and glad you seem to have confirmed that. I haven't been to lock-up since but need to go tomorrow so will see if i can find the missing air filter.
Paul.

cheers for the bike paul, its awesome, cant belive everything works! lol. my girlfriend is very pleased with it indeed, at the moment its living in the dining room, so she can sit on it and pretend she is riding it, lol this morning i took the tank off, and the problem was the little filter in the tank, so its all sorted, now i'm gonna start preping the pannels for paint. it will be going pink of course. lol

yeah its the first gyro that honda made, they still make them, and there are also ones with a roof, called the gyro canopy. well yesterday me and my dad got the stream runnin sweet, and took it for a blast up and down the street (its a private road) which is on a hill, it goes well, and even goes up the hill really well, i'm 13 stone and my dad is 15, and the little moped had no problem at all! so my girlfriend who's weight i'm not allowed to put, lol, should be no problem for it. I took the carb off to give it a clean, and notice that the inlet manifold restricts it loads, the hole in the mnifold it about 1/3 the side of the hole in the carb, and its a big step too, so opening it up and matching it to the carb should give some more power. its a stange thing to ride, I cant really describe it, but it doesnt feel like a bike! its extremely stable, it can be riden at a slow walking pace very easily, which makes slow tight manouvers at slow speeds a piece of pee. last night when my girlfriend got home, I let her have a blast on it, and she found it very easy to ride, she has never riden a motorbike before, only a schwimm stingray. alltho we have a huge garage, here is it sat in out dining room. cos its her little mechanical baby, lol. the pics wernt taken in 05, its just I havent set up the cam
