Seth - Your absolutely right about the removal, I did exactly that. Fitting it back is not going to be easy, but I think I can get about 70% of the way along with the spot welder if I modify one of the tips slightly. And the rest will be mig welded one way or the other. But as you say, it wont be easy and I think it may end in a few strong words, and a few mig burns

amazing skills there Tony. I do metal fabrication for a living albeit with the thicker stuff (2mm minimum) and to do what you do with the thin stuff takes serious skill ... you can consider me another fan !!!!!!

Thanks Rottie007, you have to make sure everything is accurate, and do your best to control the distortion, from both welding and grinding, after that the principles are the same.

Next installment here Only a few hours yesterday, not much to show for it, but more preparation work in readiness for the wing top Small Repair needed to the edge of the rear window scuttle, cut out and in turns out the grey primer on the wing top panel, is covering a thin layer of rust, so I had to strip all of that off on the inside and started on the outside edges, the rest I can finish once it is welded in place also took the opportunity to clean up the inside of the wing a little more before the top goes on there were some rust spots on the arch as well, so decide to investigate those Turned out just to be surface rust, nothing perforated, also the returns are excellent too hopefully next time will see the wingtop fitted

I'm amazed how you can do weld in repairs that just disappear. I have to cover everything with a layer of filler!

Mirafioriman - Its just practice, make sure everything is level and your halfway there Nightmares - Thanks for that, I do agree that it should have a nice paint job, to show off its clean lines A Bit more done today, got the wing top fully welded in, not as bad as I thought so that was good The rust under the grey primer is a bit heavier and pitted on the outside, so will have to make sure we give that a good going over Not really much to see for all that work, but here you are, fitted and starting to strip the rest of the paint Hopefully strip the rest of the paint tomorrow and DA the whole lot

Ade - Yes I am very pleased about the arches, from the start this car has been the opposite of what we expected when it comes to rust, so nice to see it working in our favour this time. OB - I did once see car in some magazine, a Beetle I think that had just been lacquered over the bare metal, I thought it looked cool, but I don't think Gordon would approve.

I never cease to be amazed.
It's very inspiring stuff, even though it's a bit frustrating that as a mere mortal I can't achieve the same standards!
Anyway, keep it up in 2010. When it's done, I can see this Victor being a lot better than when it originally rolled out of Luton.
Cheers, and happy new year,
John

I hate people who make stuff like this look easy. I'd be on my second tub of filler by now.
Good work!

Thanks Guys Got a bit done on the other side today, started to strip the paint off with the clean and strip discs Highlighted this, now looks a bit worse than first thought, and it is fairly swollen around the spot welds too, so think this will mean that it is pretty rusty on the inside Inner panel does not look too bad from the outside, but as the outer panel is rusted from the inside out, I think this will also be poor on the inside once we investigate further
