cant you heat them up? with a bit of pressure on them they should sag, just gotta do it accuratly. itd be a tad safer i wudda thought. although i have no major quibbles with cutting other than it doesnt stiffen

be careful though,as cutting an inch off the spring will lower more than an inch, about 1 1/2 inch from what i can remember.my bro-in-law chopped his springs down and when he jumped in it was so low it grounded with his weight on board.(oops)

All you got to do is make them the same as they are originaly if you get what i mean. Not familar with imps but if the springs have a flat seat on them or coil tighter at the ends or basicly anything other than coil normaly then you will have alot of problems. Look here: forums.turbosport.co.uk/bbs/showpost.php?p=1119750&postcount=3If your springs are like the ones on the left you can cut them. If they are like the ones on the right don't attempt it!!

again I'm not familiar with imp springs so i couldnt say. lowered my benz by chopping them. the spring on the left is a standard front one, the one on the right is a 3 inch lowered that i had made.(doesnt look it but measured, and it is) still wasnt low enough so a couple of coils were cut to give around a 5 inch drop.then the car settled another half inch or so.used the springs off the back of my old w123 estate, which were also cut to suit. these were very easy springs to get evenly matched so it doesnt sit lop sided.i don't think id attempt chopping anything with a pigtail, and i don't think id heat them up to get them to sag.very difficult to get them both the same.

what we tend to do with our Skoda springs is put them in a large press (10 ton), heat them up, compress them, leave them to cool, remove from press and refit

Basically a couple of metal blocks with bolts. I agree with Mr_B I wouldnt recommend heating springs to lower them. If you know what you are doing then thats fine if not could have very bad consequences.

What youve got to do is work out the ratio of how much you have to cut off the spring to how much you want to lower the car. It will depend on the type of suspension the car uses ofcourse. With some setups like mcpherson strut the amount you cut off the spring is pretty much a 1:1 ration with the amount the car is lowered (ignoring the camber angle) a beam axel will also be about 1:1 but if youve got something like double wishbones or trailing arms then the ration will shift in the direction of 1:2 where you have to cut less off the spring for a cirtan drop. Thats when maths lessons come in handy

Basically a couple of metal blocks with bolts. Yup, have a set of those in original packaging - must be from the seventies I suppose. As I have a perfectly servicable grinder, they just hang on the wall in my garage for comedy value.
