Not that, you filthy buggers.
The shuv is loud. Very loud.
It also has an unusable rear bench (due to the approx. 1" gap betwixt seat back and bench)
So...do I get rid of the bench?
If so, then carpets, headlining...?

I guess it Depends, I have driven for 3 years a car (Midget) which was toally stripped if the Creature comforts, its OK but the lack of carpet got on my nerves just for the warmth feel. if the back seat is not usable then get rid (should take my own advice on that cus the GT has a back seat that in no way is usable )

Its got four doors so I can access it to put stuff on it...But if I got shot of it then I could fit more in...
I'm far too big to sleep on it (TCC-style).

headlining is the only thing i would be iffy about taking out, i did it in mine and its the one thing i always regret. ive completely stripped 2 or 3 cars now for road use and its fun to drive on the road, getting rid of sound deadening tar is a ballache. really its probably not worth it bu its so much fun to have a noisy stripped car. so do it. everything.

I am going to strip out seats, but leave the headlining. Carpet will stay as well and I`ll recarpet the areas under the seats. Just makes it easier to live with day to day and it doesnt weigh that much in the scheme of things. I`ll remove the Chipboard boot Floor Panels in the Kadett as well as they are heavy, and replace with Ally or something Light but stiff

I would reccomend leaving the carpet in too, the only car i had without one was a knightmare everytime it rained, it was always muddy and slippy. But apart from that strip it all!

Anyone want to buy the seats from a Chevette Special saloon? They're a rather fetching shade of green...

I'll take a photo to show just how unusable the back of the Shuv is.
The passenger seat has a bottle of Duckhams wedged between it and the bench...

I was going to leave the headlining in my Chamois because apparently you get problems with condensation in the car. I'm told it's like it's raining inside the car! However... Since the headlining is not in great shape, it's staying out. The roof has been stonechipped to try to prevent some of the drumming but it's gonna be LOUD! "You what?" "I said IT'S GONNA BE LOUD!!!" ;D Mine has seats, door trims and... er... that's it. Aluminium 5-bar chequerplate flooring. Then again, it's not for every day. I'm

Take everything out, i mean everything, it's a revelation when you realise the power to weight gains to be made... You'll think twice about a pocket full of loose change afterwards. I did 16K in five months in this, I never had to wear earplugs and I the only trouble I encoutered any discomfort was when i did 275 miles with only a quick stop for fuel. It's got polycarb windows and two seats... If you don't feel like you've really travelled, how can you arrive?

I've always thought it was a bit of a giggle... Kerb weight came down from 1550kg odd (can't remember exact weight) to under 1100... But added another 40 with the cage, but then lost that through chopping other things out. For instance, you can loose the fillets in the b pillars with a cage in place... I reckon under a 1000kg is quite possible, without physically loosing the roof. ;D

Definatly loose it all. I drive my car everyday and its totaly stripped. (even scraped off most of the seam sealer). So much nicer to look after. I don't get why cars have interiors anyway! if youve got carpets they just get dirty and wet and are impossible to keep clean. Most people then resort to the solution of putting a mat over that top! How illogical is that!!! Head linings just go yellow and serve no purpose other than to lessen the amount of head room youve got! Door cards just get ripped and back seats mean your forever using your petrol up giving people 'lifts' everywhere Ear plugs are definatly not required!

On the same subject, on the Skoda Estelle/Rapid's they put underlay in all the footwells which was heavy and soaked up any water allowing floors to rust! Mine has understandably been removed!

strip itive saved approx 30kg's now........and damn the cars s*1t slow when ive got a passenger gives a slight + on accel but best was the brakes so much more responsive, lighter steering and the front wheels seem to get a bit more grip in the wet....although saying that the road was bone dry leaving the college car park let the clutch out a lil too fast with some revs (was on a slight hill).......whered that black line come from WOW just realised the pic on page 1 is the interior of a 245, mines stripped to the extent i cant rember what the 245's interior looks like but i noticed the heater controls , ill find a pic of mine completly stripped now just a steering wheel and a gear stick

everything except the door cards and headlining was stripped from my old 411, and it was very loud.i had to wear ear defenders or i was deafer than i already am when i got out. i reckon if i stripped the interior of the benz i could save at least a 1/3 of the weight.but what would be the point of having a benz?the carpets are a 1/4 inch thick with another inch of foam then sound deadening moulded to the floor, then the floor and on the outside a thick layer of some sort of hard, but soft rubbery stuff.i like having a quiet car, but i like other peoples to be loud. go on *n strip it.

My Imp has very little in the way of an interior, and the Imp isn't a car known for its silent running, so if I can survive that you can survive it in the Chevette! As for condensation without a headlining, this can be true in many cases. One of our mobile first aid posts we use with St Andrews Ambulance suffers a great deal from condensation because it doesn't have a headlining in the ambulance body it has, to the point where we have shelves above the overhead storage cupboards that can't be used to store anything that would be water damaged because we'd found that paperwork was coming out soaked. Admittedly the heating in that Sherpa's also bloody atrocious and that might not be helping matters, but I can imagine the problem would be similar in your Chevette. In any case I still have a headlining in the Imp, although it could do wtih a bit of a scrubbing clean.
