Nice going dave, looking good, one thing about vans is they tend to have more room underneath than cars do, so what you lose out on in the squashed engine bay you gain back by having an easy job getting a gearbox in. I must get a move on or i'll never catch up. You´re right mate, as you don´t have a tunnel to worry about but the gearbox/engine are fitted as high as possible as i didn´t have that much room down below........one of the disadvantages of lowering a 60´s van

Any moment I'm expecting pictures of the nuclear power plant...
Mind you - a picture of the GT6 on the back of this thing will be mind-boggling.
Go well Dave.

Great work Dave, really coming on now What's left? Cheers Pete, i need make up a headlining for the cab - build a frame for the winch, redo tank and fuel lines - make up new rear lights and wire them in - paint side door - renew front brakes, fit the wooden panels on the ramp, put it all back together and drive it over to Brussels ;D Excellent progress. Thanks Seth, getting there slowly. Any moment I'm expecting pictures of the nuclear power plant... Mind you - a picture of the GT6 on the back of this thing will be mind-boggling. Go well Dave. Cheers mate, i´m looking forward to seeing the Triumph on the back too ;D I spent the weekend faffing about building a frame for the winch. Basically the back looked like this on Friday... I need to close off the hole and make something up that will hold the winch in place. So i knocked up a bit of frame... and welded it all to the original frame of the van. The bulkhead needed closing off too... and closed it all in using 1mm plating. The panels are removable and will be covered in carpet, the winch will be going on top with the cable going up through the roof via a pulley - well that´s the plan anyway. ;D

Cheers guys, the winch frame is probably a bit over the top but better safe than sorry eh. I just found this picture whilst sorting out my computer, any ideas what it is, or to be more accurate what it was? ;D

A piston of some sort that met a nasty end? Guessing its off something that ran at high revs given the short skirt, unless theres a lot of bit missing!

a 24V Scorpio engine piston? Spot on mate, no.6 cylinder to be exact. ;D I stripped the old 24V to have a look at the damage. After seeing the paint damage to the old inner wheelarches i reckon the old girl just got too hot and lost a shell - ...me ignoring it and trying to make it to RRG09 probably didn´t help much either

...me ignoring it and trying to make it to RRG09 probably didn´t help much either You mean RRG08... time flies when you're fixing Fords You´re right Siert, must be getting old ;D Well the new winch turned up yesterday so i can fabricate the pivot and finish off the frame. So using a few cut offs i mocked up the pivot... and welded it to the top frame. This will take the pull from the winch and transfer it back down the flatbed. The winch will be attached to this little lot with the cable going up through the roof, via the pivot roller and down the flatbed. With a bit of luck i should be able to wire it all in and test it at the weekend.

Nice work :-)
That top pivot is going to have a hell of a load of stress through it. There is a lot of metal work there but what about the two bolts that make up the pulley?
Also - can you mirror that lower mount 180 degrees so that the winch is held down on both sides or doesnt the winch allow it?
Just thinking you might get a twisting motion on the bolts otherwise?as the winch trys to lift itself off the support? Not having seen the winch though this is is just "minds-eye" stuff :-)
Seems that when i post on this thread it sounds critical - its really not! Just putting forward a view :-)
