Looking at a car in Kirby Moorside at the moment. Its got no MOT or Tax and has an electrical gremlin. If all goes well at the inspection today i would need it transported from Kirby Moorside (North Yorkshire) to Swindon in Wiltshire. Multimap says its 247 miles door to door - going rate is £1/mile (apparently) so i guess i should budget for £500 for the journey ?? Thats half the value of the car Any ideas ? Or could i lease a van and trailer from someone in the Wiltshire/Berkshire/Hampshire/Gloucester area? This is my dream car - I'm waiting for the inspection to come back this afternoon. I will post pictures up if all goes well. Thanks.

If nobody here can help, I would suggest you beg/borrow/steal a tow-car, hire a trailer and collect it yourself. 500 miles round trip is easilly doable in a single day, so if you can get the tow-car, count £50 or so for a days trailer hire, and maybe another £50 - £100 for fuel costs.

Any idea where to beg/borrow a trailer from and can you drive one on a stock car license?

There's a place just outside Andover, £40 for 24 hours hire of trailer. Google 'Siteweld'. Used them before no problems.

I would expect to pay a quid a mile one way using one of the car-shifters on eBay. Email loads of them with the journey details and one of them will come back to you with a decent price, I have done this loads of times.

When I price up a job its a £40 minimum/call out charge and £1 for every mile travelled with the car on the back (1 way basically).
Only problem is I'm in Glasgow so not exactly local.

Try PM'ing Bignut on here, he has just started up officially and is dead keen, plus other RR'ers have used him for shifting stuff (Akku, DTHPike).

It'd cost me near as dammit £200 in petrol (13mpg Rangie) and i'm guessing it'd take most of a day, so I'd do it for you for £320 that's fully insured transport on my trailer..
best I could do as I'd still be making a big loss over a normal days labour charges..
I could do it a bit cheaper still if it's a very light car as i could use a different tow car thats better on fuel but that would mean the car being transported should be well under a ton for legality...

You could try Movinghotrods on here, scottie is a good bloke and has moved bits for me in the past. Or if you want to rent a trailer, Trailertek in Mitcheldever, hants are good, a mate rented one the other day for £38 plus vat for the day, hope this might help.
