Right then, time for a thread on my two wheeled project. Not a push scooter unfortunately. Instead, it's a 1984 Suzuki GS250T - basically the Twin version of the Suzuki GS250, with an 8 valve 4 stroke motor and all the added complexities this brings. Lovely. It was bought from a work colleague for the princely sum of £60. It had been in a garden shed for 3 years after her husband upgraded their bike for something more modern and that doesn't weigh the same as a small house (140kg dry weight on this thing!). So let's take a look at what £60 gets you these days... Apparently genuine mileage: So what's the aim here? Well, a simple restoration on the smallest possible budget is the order of the day here. I haven't got a bike license, so this project is just for fun and then sell, not to ride. ;D As for what it needs? Well, the vital stuff is: - Needs new battery - Needs brakes looking at - Needs new fuel line somewhere - Fuel reserve tap is stuck and needs freeing up. So not that much needed to get it running. However, non-vital stuff I want to do is: - Repaint tank (and probably the frame covers too since I won't get a perfect paint match) - Repaint frame - Re-cover seat (or at least replace the top bit of vinyl, cos it's ripped) - Either re-chrome rear grab handle or paint it black, because the chrome's flaked beyond polishing. - Polish up all the brightwork including wheel rims - Give the engine a clean and service - Replace non-matching rear indicator So all in all, not too complex really - should make for a fairly boring thread ;D. Needs no welding, so in theory this shouldn't take more than a couple of weekends. That's the theory anyway...

Looks like the tap is stuck on, therefore your almost definitely going to have to clean the carbs. Nice find thought small four strokes almost never survive that long, keep it as original as possible and advertise in classic mechanics, someone will rip your arm off for it. fuel lines have probably only perished at there ends, so just try and shorten them a bit first. How are the silencer internals?

Pretty cool, looks like a bargain and should be a nice project! ...upgraded their bike for something more modern and that doesn't weigh the same as a small house (140kg dry weight on this thing!). I would have said 140kg is a featherweight!

nice find but with that registration it should have been in a barn but anyway the suzis of that era had a bad reputation for charging gremlins as in the regulator/rectifier packing up but a popular mod was to fit a honda one (afaik) also the alternator can struggle but it seems a way to help it is to keep the oil level at the top mark to help it stay cool, also suzi were very fond of changing models every few months, sometimes it was minor such as a colour but other times there were big changes ttfn glenn

Yeah I'd heard about the regulator/rectifier glitch. Apparently this bike's had a new one, but it's another Suzuki one..!

According to the last owner, they're Yamaha ones modified to fit. Apparently Suzuki wanted £££ for replacements. ;D

on the rectifier/regulator thing, get hold of one from a honda superdream 250/400 or a later suzuki one from like a gs500e. they will all fit and work fine with the connectors modified

Nice find. Like the plans.
Re the regulator.... if it ain't broke, leave well alone. Ones from later Gs's and superdreams will fit if needed. What is the engine?? A derivation of the GSX250 lump??
The scilencers remind me of an MZ.... get some nice gazelles or the like.... will sound ace.

Smart find there mate I quite like the silencers. Afaik, the GSX250 had the same motor, gearbox ratios and power output so broadens your searches for bits if you need. A local guy had one of these when it was new(about 83/84) and was the subject of 'poor-man's Harley' jibes. I must have been the only one from our crowd that liked it. "Shouldn't take more than a couple of weekends"? That's what we all think before we start a project ;D Before you know it, it'll be "Now I've got that off, I might as well do this....Oh! I can get at those other bits easy now. I might as well do them too................." Wemoto should have all the bits you need

Right, new battery is bought and in. Quite scary because I had to fill it up with acid myself, and whoever had the idea of packaging high concentrate acid in a squeezy bottle needs slapping with a fish. However, the result is.... Yay! Electricity! ;D Also decided to change the oil. I'll change it again after it's been run: (By the way, that white slick on the surface is paint dust - tis one of my dad's old decorating roller trays I'm using! ;D ) Total spend to date: £91.97.

Some tinkering later... We have running! Still a bit lumpy at idle, but it sounds pretty sweet at higher revs. Started first time as well (the time in the video was the second), although obviously it was a bit hesitant at first! Looks like I'm not going to have it much longer though, am considering selling all my cars and stuff off.

Severe mojo failure. Haven't decided yet though, so whilst I decide I'm going to keep going on the bike. Next step now it's running is to pop the carbs off and clean them out properly, I expect they're not helping the lumpy idle much...

I got a Skyjet 125 from an Ebay seller. It came with the battery acid in a plastic bottle too. Thought it was a stupid idea too.

I had a GSX250S from around '85 or 86. It was fricken heavy but perfect to learn on as it had a gear indicator straight sitting riding position etc. Was very underpowered and the rear axle locators kept moving every few days. I had to re-wire the thing and found that it was hard to get parts for. As above, I wouldn't spend too much on it.

The total budget I've set aside for this is £200. I'm not aiming to actually make any money on selling it mind you, I'm doing this purely for the sake of actually finishing something I start. ;D
When I hit my £200 budget I'll probably just stick it on ebay in whatever condition it happens to be in.
