What a week and a bit- after returning the Dolly Sprint I picked up a Mercedes 190 2.5 16V. Still hurting from having to take it back this morning but had an enjoyable few days in it- I particuarly wanted to borrow it to compare it alongside my own M3 and have to say I was quite taken with it. It is a bit softer than the E30 and a bit more bulky to hussle down the back roads but it surprised me with it's sharp handling and decent turn of speed and it certainly shocked a few people due to it's pretty understated looks. Not least of all the cabbie who pulled alongside me at the lights just to say "darn gosh, that's ruddy quick- what's under the bonnet?" (well, he used slightly more colourful language but you get the gist!). Anyhoo, I should be packing as I'm moving house on Wednesday... But I'll sort out some pics 1st

that is quite a sleeper Looks good, like your commitment, retro-rides before moving house! ;D So, you borrow these cars, do people have borrow your M3? How do you know they aren't going to trash it? Was your M3 at Uxbridge earlier this year?

Hi, I don't lend people mine although I let my mate drive it for the pics!
I just pay a yearly fee and get allocated some points and then I use them as I see fit- for example the Sprint is in the lowest band along with a Mini and similar vehicles but a Ferrari 308 is in the top band. The months of the year and weekdays are similarly graded so it all depends what car you have, what month it is and whether you go for weekdays or weekends as to how many points you use up at once.
It wasn't at Uxbridge this year but was last.

Norm, yup- they're all owned by the club itself.
And Nicky, full marks- it is indeed a Daimler Coupe- 4.2 if I recall... it certainly had an appetite for fuel whatever it was! I averaged about 9mpg...!!

i looked at the Classic Car Club when you posted pics of the dolly and was pleasantly surprised at the non-toffishness of it all. it's not cheap but it seems pretty good value if you stay away from the summer weekends. me, personally hire some of the odder metal and just use it for work to confuse people. "Hey, Chris, is that your 911 in the carpark? Didn't you have a Lancia yesterday?" F'rexample - Minimum membership is £3k, gets you 750 points. An Audi Quattro 10v Coupe is band 3, for me to have hired that for tuesday-friday this week is 36 points. I could then splurge out on a 911 RS Carerra replica for a whole week in december for 104 points. Finally for another 36 points i can have a ferrari 328 for 48 hours on my birthday. Only 'spent' less than 200 points but i reckon i'd have a very enjoyable two weeks

I took the 348 for a week (5 weekdays) in May- covered 1200 miles to the Lake District and back for 90 points which works out about £400. Considering some Ferrari's would only cover that mileage in a year anyway I'd say that was pretty good value and made for an amazing week away- Ferrari, stayed at a country house- I was a rich man for 5 days!! :-) Here's me looking 'cool' with the 348 in the Lake District...

Oh, and if anyone is ever around Old Street just pop into their new showroom- speak to Piers or Chris and say you know me. They're friendly guys! Maybe one day I'll make it to the Manhattan branch- I have my eye on the 1969 Camaro SS/RS or the 1969 Dodge Super Bee

Must admit that £3k does sound good value - still more than I can justify right now, but when you compare it to depreciation on some dullard modern rubbish or the costs of keeping something interesting like they have on the road....
Thinking of the Mec 190E, there's someone near me got a nice J-plate one with a very subtle bodykit and set of wheels on it. Carat perhaps? Look like they've been there since new.

I looked into the club for a mate a while back...I must admit that the idea of choosing an appropriate car for an event is appealing. Bug Jam this weekend?...get the Ghia out! Porsche OC night at the local...hire the 911 for the night! Now what shall we go to RCS in? I think I'll take the Fulvia:
