The imp failed its mot, i knew it was going to just not this bad It has rusted, lots. Both front wishbone mounts, upper damper mounts, rear upper spring perches, inner and outer sills at the rear, passenger seat mountings, floor seatbelt mountings. And it went to the garage with my dad running fine, and has returned with a bad missfire, not pleased, not pleased at all. So what next? I am really lost at the moment, with the engine sounding screwed aswell as the body i just don't know where to go. And i bought this RS2 intercooler today for the massive sum of 21 squid not very happy J

Rust body work? Surely an excuse to get some sheet metal, and space frame it.. or some pipe work and make a tubular chassis?

Yeah it would, but money is a serious issue here i.e. a spaceframe dosent come from my pitiful student budget. Being a poor student is really starting to get on my tits, everything is on a fu**ing budget, god damn pounds and pennies >:-(

Dosent make that noise anymore, fuckers at the garage seemed to have given it a bad miss :-(
Welding really isnt an option i don't have the facilities at home, and th garage will charge the earth for that kind and amount of welding.
hard work goes nowhere J

You're not the only one on a student budget Just be glad that you've got the car, and had fun with it. Sounds all a bit terminal! Sounds like the garage gave it a rag too far, or at least did something untoward.... I'm sure you'll come up with a cunning stunt to save it though, is a cheap re-shell not an option, there must be one somewhere?

I know its hard to be positive when it all seems to go wrong at once, but try to see all repairs as an oppertunity to upgrade. The wishbone mounts, damper mounts and spring hangers could be the ideal oppertunity to work in some serious negative camber as your repairing, or upgrade to a completely different system all together, or as HW said, spaceframe it!! The engine can be rebuilt to be strnger than ever All easy for us to sit here and say and it all takes money, but try to look on the bright side and don't get too disheartened, its a great car ;D *edit* alot about not bieng able to weld it up has been said while i was typing away so most of this should be ignored!!!

Can't you put it in a garage/barn/yard somewhere till you can afford to sort it out - be a shame to let a wonderful car like that die...

Sorry about that, but its a cool car, you'll get there some how, christ youve got this far, and there is this support network. this might sound bad but its something i'm considering with 2 major projects: good time to get a christmas job and put it away for a -short-while. seems like the opportunity for a quality rebuild.

Bummer, man. Just don't do what I did.... left my unfinished Mini project outside my mum & dads 'en-bloc' garage while I was away at uni.... by the time I came back what hadn't rusted has been either stolen or vandalised.
I hope you can get it sorted or stored soon.

There must be some welding wizards on here prepared to do it on the chaep or in return for a turbo conversion!

Gutted for you mate, wish I'd kept the wishbones off my rally Imp, they needed slight repairs but they weren't too bad, I could've posted you them down but me being a right eejit I scrapped them with the shell. Ask around the Imp Club, someone might be able to point you to a decent donor car?

How about if you prep the area's that need welding and make the plates? And then just pay the labour charge for a mobile welder?

Everything on the car that move is in great shape, its the shell thats had it. If it looked ok on the outside, like didnt need 3 arches sills rear roof section rear lower quarters and the front lower valance then the bit on the bottom would be worth it. Its time for a majour rethink.
The engine it seems is just an electrical problem, after my first little rant I'm sure that the garage would never had ragged my car, ive been going to the for too long and they know me too well. So i may split the car and sell it for parts, mabe its time to emabark on something new?
I think that this is hitting hard because it is my first and so far only performance car, and the only reason it is 'performance' is beacuse of me. Mabe its time to let go!
HAHAHAHA all sounds so dramatic!
So my thinking at the moment is get a sh*tter to drive around in, and sell the imp for parts. Then start thinking about the project car to be ready for retro cars next year.
Cheers for the concern guys

J, Don't despair! Shove the car on the drive at home and do it up when time and funds permit. The misfire might just be a loaded plug or dodgy points or rotor arm. Anything can be repaired. ANYTHING!! Just look at what some of the guys right here have done! As someone said, some of these guys right here might be able to sort it for you. ;D Never give up. There's always a way, when there's a will. Just my £0.02 worth. I'm
