My mates bought his first place and is doing up using his dad's tools. Noticed he was using a somewhat old drill which I think looks the business! A very old corded Black and Decker drill. Metal casing, still works fine after god knows how many years. Orginal lead and plug by looks of things as well. They simply don't make tools like this anymore.

It's a shame I never got a picture of my old Bosch drill. Nowhere near as old as this, but I think it was bought in the mid 70s. It was used as a "diy" drill by my uncle for years, and then left in a damp shed til about 1996, when I claimed it (at age 10)
It lasted me until about a year ago, getting nothing but abuse. Halfway through making a seat of seat rails it started smoking, then threw 3 inch flames out of the side. Carried on working though, and finished the job!
I felt absolutely terrible throwing the poor thing away - it packed in exactly as I finished the last hole.
RIP Green bosch drill.
It's been replaced by an £8 Aldi special, which stinks like hot oil and sparks a hell of a lot.

we use a three old orange late 60's early 70's black&decker drills.. ones on a bosch piller drill mount.. the other is for the flap wheel as it uses a shallow chuck. and the other is the drille drille... very very powerfull. and if the chuck is done up tight, and it snags the work it will i have now doubt break my arm/wrist/upper body lol

My uncle used to have a Makita one, I remember him using it in the 70's and him telling me then that it was nearly 10 years old. I think it finally died about 8 years ago, and he has burned out 2 or 3 expensive modern ones since.

My Dad's got a couple of those old B&D drills with the circular saw and sander attachments. One is early 1970s and the other is older and belonged to my Grandad.
A local hardware shop sold replacement armatures for those drills -would anybody bother nowadays?!

I guarantee that'll work for another 20 years of constant use if the bushes or bearings don't wear out before hand. I have a plasticky Power Devil one for ten or so years, but the chuck part is acting a bit now. I also have a blue metal drill of a similar age/style that runs off a 240v transformer. Old tools are the best!

My dad has been using the same blue Makita hand drill since the mid 1970s. He's a blacksmith by trade so it's seen a LOT of use.
It's been through one armature and countless brushes but Makita still do the spares and it still keeps going.
Proof that with power tools you get what you pay for.
