Marinas wernt that bad really. People must think they are absolutley dire when they hear the babble from programmes like TG. They're an interesting piece of social and automotive history in my eyes, old cars don't have to be brilliant to be worthwhile.
Ive heard something about a "Marina funeral" or something. I'm guessing thats where the latest marina is going.
I'm half tempted to go out and buy a Marina. and enjoy it.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Ah how i miss un-seizing me trunnions and replacing snapped rear leaves ;D Mind you now i change void bushes and adjust rear brakes every month? Oh well, out of the frying pan, into another frying pan (Neil) A bloke i knew had a 1300 turbo one he made from a metro turbo and a 1300 coupe was a right laugh for peeing people off at the lights, even had the seats and red seat belts I think of my old ones every time i open the door on me disco (misty look in me eyes an all) ;D Top gear is i must admit peeing me off a bit, way too scripted, i mean how many times can James accidently mention "bum sex" (though i did snigger) ;D

Slightly changing gear, I'm curious to know what state an umpteeny hundred thousand pound more than a decent house super car is in after they've been thrashing round the track and doing burnouts all day, or several days??
Obviously they trash a few thousand pounds worth of tyres, but what about everything else on a brand new car?

I had loads through my youth and they were horrible compared to things like escorts and vivas/chevettes, the only one i ever had that i liked was a pickup truck, i only used to buy em cos they were cheap usually.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

But you have to bear in mind the manufacturer has already produced numerous prototypes and a batch of field evaluation units which will have all been written off as part of production development.

if you where there in the day you'd know how awful they where!! They probably were, BUT there alot of people that would say MK3 'tina's were absolute cack in there day too, with premature rot and wobbly void bushs etc... my ex father in law hates them after having one as a company car back in there day. Don't get me wrong, I don't really like marina's and I love cortina's dearly and would jump at the chance to replace my old 2.3ghia mk5 BUT my eyes are open as to there limitations and failings. Just depends on what you happen to like as to whether or not you think there worth saving. Old cars are pants at doing most things a car is designed to do compared to a modern, but if all we were bothered about were a cars capabilitys this would be a pretty quiet forum!

If some of the marina owners didn't react so violently to the first two that were destoryed maybe they wouldn't of bought a third...
I do agree the format is getting abit old I would like to see more old vs new they already did a few.Although the touring car feature was brilliant and the one on format of car controls.
I think the feature on the renault they modded was abit unfair they could of started with something much better and much more tunable for half the price of an evo...

if you where there in the day you'd know how awful they where!! I was there back in the day, my parents ran a fleet of them over the years and never had any aggro apart from a bit of grot in old age. Trunnions could cause problems but you do need to grease them regularly. I'm not going to argue that black is white and say they were great cars, just not that bad!

Press cars are also a form of free advertising for the car makers- and they're getting free "relaibilty and durability testing" of their cars -it gives them a vaulable insight into how their cars cope as real production cars

I agree totally, in fact that is where half the charm comes from of BL cars to me, and partly why I'd rather own an Austin Allegro to an Austin Mini, because the Allegro is unloved and seen as a comedic car, but many good and interesting things about it are overlooked because of a stigma.

Cant believe that was 1993, kin ell feels like five minutes ago.....probably got that issue knocking about still.....
