just found this for sale, it's near Paris, wouldn't mind it meself, looks quality. The strut tops look alright, but it's not not 100% grot free: The original decals, wheels, quarter bumpers, seats and spotlights are superb though! Great colour too! Only 350 notes. Runs a treat apparently with ford SH. PM me if you fancy it. I suppose this should be in the for sale section, but it could be considered cool enough to have a quick thread of its own.....

I havent got any documentation in front of me, but it looks pretty genuine to me. Perhaps the '2-door only' rule didnt apply on the continent?

Yep, seen 1300 and 1600 sports Mk2 Escorts in France (usually red) a few years back. Later Sierras in 2 door, very common in Germany 2 Door Mk2 Granada saloon (not coupe like MK1 they did), BAOR had some as staff cars. 2 Door Orion ...about 600 were made in Germany in 1980's, most got used for club rallying. Best of all is MK3 and MK4 Cortina equivalent as the Taunus Coupe Theres loads more, German spec/Cologne built fords always seem to have more interesting variants.

I saw a pic of a 2-door orion once. That’s crazy that they would go to the bother of tooling up to press the panels, mould the interior trims etc and then make 600 before knocking it on the head. Anyone got a pic?

I remember one in 1987 in a club rally in North Wales (it was red & white).
The tooling I agree must have caused a nusance but...
...the doors were the same as a 3door Escort mark 3 of same era as were a lot of other items. The bigest job of course would be the rear wing and rear side windows. Naturally after seeing this car I asked a friend who was working at a Ford RS Dealership at the time and it was he that told me all about them including the 600 production figure. The reason according to him a 2 door was experimented with is because Ford were considering rallying the Orion in lesser events etc. (all helps for advertising/publicity and so on) and at the time a 2 Door was considered a stronger shell.
