Completely random question for a equally odd reason.. having seen fredtransits most recent post in the 'Discovery help' thread retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=64033I'm having bad thoughts. Guess you can see what I'm hankering after lol the recent aquisition of this: means I really should find a tow vehicle, as nice as using my mates wifes Porsche Cayenne is i'm pushing my luck a bit now (me and him share the boat) anyway if anyone has any ideas let me know... Cheers Joe Oh should add I currently have no passport so that option is out, am recovering from swine flu (maybe I should head to france ) and my record with the RAC is not a happy one.. guessing any queries from me this year will be met with laughter and requests for huge sums of money!

it would be interesting which Frankfurt this is, there is one close to me (Frankfurt/Main 150kms) and the other is almost in Poland (Frankfurt/Oder).... if the trailer is insured i might have someone who could pick it up and deliver it to my house, though i don't have a towbar on the RR09 vehicle...

I cant think of a way of getting a broekn down LR back from Frankfurt that isnt more expensive than buying a broken one over here, even joining the AA will be more if you include europena recovery, lots of broken LR's on ebay if thats what you really want, i turned down a RR classic with no engine for 90 quid the other day.

I looked into RAC euro cover, works out at about £95 for the age of vehicle, that was for 10 days too, and included the zone 2 they needed for Russia. So a week for zone 1 would be cheaper.

Bad news Joe, they are up and running and on their way again! Just had a text to say they have crossed into Austria, and am waiting to see what the problem was.

Most euro breakdown policies wont bring it back anyway. In the smll print, they state that if the valu of repatriation is less then market value of the car, then they wont move it. Book value on an old landy is a few hundred pounds maybe, Recovery from europe is likely to be a fair bit more than that.

I find it hard to believe the RAC or AA will be reaching for the glass's guide whilst you hang about on the hard shoulder. We have had a total of 3 vans brought back from France (well two, one was from Germany) and the price of the van was never ever mentioned. One was seriously accident damaged too. You pay a supplement if it's over 15 years old.

You pay a supplement if it's over 15 years old. That´s interesting as the ADAC wern´t happy about bringing my van back to Germany last year after blowing the engine on the way to RR08. I told them on the phone that it´s worth a bit more than their fees but they wern´t having it. Eventually they sent some bod round to the compound that it had been recovered to, to check that it was a half decent classic van and not just an old Transit. After that it all worked out well and it only took them four weeks to transfer the van back to Germany. I checked the german smallprint once i got home and it does have this "if it´s cheap rubbish we´ll not bring it home" clause in the contract. I´d be tempted to get it in writing that they will recover you home in future as no one told me about that clause as i signed on the dotted line

You´re not the only one, we´ll be driving through Frankfurt in the Capri tomorrow afternoon on our way down to Heidelberg for the weekend, definately not much help as the guys got it all sorted and will be halfway through Russia by now!

When we took the Allegro to Germany I took out a special classic breakdown policy that agreed to bring the car back, no matter how shonky or worthless it was. I cant remember the name of the firm though!
It was £85 a year anyway IIRC.
