I discovered this in my local Mercedes spare parts department,(AKA as German Wrecking Ltd. ) I told a mate about it,who promptly went and bought it.....and got the RUST free Merc finny on top for free. So why would any one want a Merc finny with a dinged roof?,because it's a LONG wheel base finny ,one of only 14 300SEL's built in RHD and it is almost complete, the missing bits are all inside it.My mate has things like a new floor ,grille etc etc to start the resto ball rolling...he's restored worse ;D ;D ;D.and if any one in the UK needs a Finny with NO rust get in touch.

Wow, any 300 SEL long wheel base or not is pretty freaking impressive. Havent they nearly all died to provide mechanical bits for the coupés?

It'll be cool to see that finished, a mate of mine had a fintail years ago but he got rid of it and I've no idea where it is now. Cool motors, so what's the plan with that one? Plain restoration or is it getting modded? I'd like to see one with a Merc V8 putting out serious power!

My mate,Arthur, has one serious Merc Addiction,He has 12 (twelve) restored or good mercs, ranging from a 1913 Benz, which he restored /modified into what a retro owner would have built in the '20's,a sort of Benz "T bucket" ,a low mileage 600,2 Finny coupes,a 280 and a 300 which is fully restored to a like new ,but is going to get a 6.3 (from one of his project /parts cars ) ,two fully restored 300 SEl 6.3 's ,one was worse than this 300 .,a 190 Sl ,a 560 SEc he bought new with 250,000 on the clock and it's his daily driver. and various others all in superb nick. He told me last night he has a new floor for this one plus a grille and star. The long wheel base is LOOONG ,and even in this state I stll think it's a cool set of wheels.

It looks pretty sound that 300 SEL. I agree, a sper super cool set of wheels. Great find! Good that the glass has survived too. I imagine an old merc is well up to the job of having another car plonked on its roof, as long as its not another old merc. Any more pics of it?

That is lovely. How many old cars can take the load of another car on their roof without breaking a window? Not many! It's so important that cars like this are not allowed to die. There's nothing much wrong with it from the photos! If I needed another project to add to my two, I would have been tempted myself. Old Benzs are beautifully engineered! I'm

It did have another Merc on it's roof ,the one next to it! Heres what one looks like as a stocker,I have been thinking along the lines of how to fix the roof( I could straighten it with about a days work and the rust in the back ,which is the only rust by building a Universal.Thats the benz station wagon ,and my mate has a 6.3 parts car........
