I am thinking of outing my Omega V6 in favour of something I can repair myself and that doesn't threaten to bankrupt me every time it goes wrong! ;D Would a Pug GTi 1.9 fit the bill? I know they have EFi, but I think it is a simple Bosch system that I could work with. Are the engines any good for longevity? Do the cars rust badly or does the paintwork fade particularly quickly? I have to store my daily hack outside because the racer's in the garage. Well, it will be! I might be in the mood for something different and much more involving to drive... Your thoughts? I'm

205's are definately retro, but my mate has had three 1.9's, and all of them have either blown up or other things have just gone wrong, I'm not saying all of them are unreliable but they seem quite fragile.
The gear linkages are notorious for popping off too, but there are specialists who offer upgrade kits to rectify this annoying problem!
I know I always say it but have you considered a series one 106 XSi? I've got one and it has been totally reliable, I admit it gets very well looked after but it has done track day's, autotests etc and it never misses a beat! Oh, and when it came out the handling of the GTi was remarked 'clumsy' in comparison to that of the XSi!
I'll email a buyers guide if your interested.

I'll email a buyers guide if your interested. ;D Yes please! ;D I think my email address is accessible through the forum. If not, let me know! Thank you! I have not heard of the 205 being fragile but it wouldn't surprise me. I have heard that they're flimsily made... but that they handle really well and go okay too. I don't care about image - boy racer or otherwise. Hey, I drove a poo brown Imp for years and was proud of it! Anyway, if the 205 blew up, I could always bung in a Mi16 motor on throttle bodies... got the TBs already waiting! Mmmmmm!!! I'm

Not fully rero but a car that everyone should own at least once. Pop over the the CPUK (Club Peugeot UK) forums to look at our recent debate on 1.6 v 1.9. Thread here: clubpeugeotuk.proboards36.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1129032250There's not getting away from it they are fragile, especially compared to the bullet proof Omega, but hey! horses for courses. I have the details of a great 1.9 for sale by a CPUK member so it will be a pukka car not a wreck or tarted up tat bucket. Can pm you if you want details?

Hey, thanks 104ZS. I've bookmarked the Pug forum now. I think I can feel the need for a 205 with Mi16 coming on... one day... ;D That was my thinking anyway. I'm

From experience (I've had three - 1 1.6 and 2 1.9's) - radiators leak
- starters can give up
- alternators likewise
- head gaskets fail about 70K
- valve stem oil seals go hard causing blue smoke
- anti-roll bar drop links wear
Also with the age of them now rear axle bushes seize, interior trim can look shabby, rust appears at the bottom of the B post and along the seam above the sill on the rear quarter panel. BUTdespite this list they are absolutely fantasic cars and I would love to get hold of another mint one as a keeper.

Most of those jobs I have done myself on the Imp. I guess a GTi would be a different proposition. But then you try to do even spark plugs on the Omega V6! You need to take the entire injection manifold off! Kerrazee!! One of my issues is being able to repair the car myself. I just think that the Omega might be out of my league as a DIY-er, whereas the GTi just might not be. Maybe. I'm

they're GREAT. I used to have a G-reg 1.6, a great little car, mega fun handling. I was forever whanging off the road in it and clobbering its alloys off the kerb by accident.

Its worth looking out for 106 Rallyes too, S1 can be cheap, but too many have been messed with, you might find a S2 with low miles but tend to be rarer. I still got mine under storage, I'm convinced that I'll regret selling it.......
the 106rallye.co.uk forum might be of some help too.

Would love to own a cherished example - great little cars!
I've driven a 1.6 GTi with a sick engine - but it was still fun - awsome steering feel & lively handling!
Also drove a Convertable with the engine from a 1.9 - pulled like a train in that dependable way like a Golf 8V GTi.
Awkward to work on though - you need to know little tricks to help yourself out. Helped a mate do his head gasket on the 1.6 one - you have to undo a couple of the engine mounts so as to rotate the engine round to get clearance to remove the head.

the capri has kinda been an introduction in to modifying my classic!, it has all the rubber door strips back on now and looks a lot better... it is an rgm/rga bodykit, and a capri club cossie spoiler, apart from that the car has a 2 ltr pinto, 2.8 rear single leaf springs, 38 dgas carb and k&n filter, roof bonnet boot and back pannel respray, it is near on immaculate too! just need a recaro interior, exhaust and wheels to finish.
