You are right about the Granada, never see many Mk1 estates? They are out there, a -very- rare 2.8 Twin Turbo Mk1 Estate was on Ebay recently.

Brown bumbers, you cant tell on the pic but the bumpers are v slightly blue. Spent all day in jams getting parts noone else wants, i must be mad BTW the 2.0 one at 750 euros looks very tempting IMO

There is something about Sierras. I have heard (on Top Gear, years ago!) that they are just about the only car that has no major weakness. Bodies do not (usually!) rot particularly badly, engines, transmissions, suspensions, brakes... all just go on and on. Not a bad proposition for a different, interesting, daily runabout for next-to-nowt... I'm

Hmm, I think they rust like a good 'un, well D/E reg ones do anyway, I supose the later ones seem to last quite well. check this out....was a cracker before this lad got his hands on it. Worse than banger racing. tinyurl.com/ayh8dMakes you want to cry.

I remember in very early Sierra MkI days how some base models not only had the slatted grille, but it was painted black for extra poverty appeal. Think same models did without wheel trims too. It wasn't even that posh! The reason that the grille was black was that it WASN'T painted! I've got loads of old brochures from that era, not a single one shows a "Sierra Saloon" from the front, presumably to hide it I have a theory that only a handful or so were actually built, purely to serve as a showroom-enticing low figure - "Own a NEW SIERRA from only £2995!", referring to the base Saloon, and then when the eager punter is ensnared, "sorry mate, can't get you one for three months, how about an L for an extra couple of hundred quid"... Also, as mentioned above, the early top-mount mirror must be a real rarity now... I'm sure the "saloon" only had one! The major problem with them, as far as I'm concerned, is that they are undriveable. I've been in quite a few (I worked at a Ford garage during the summers in the late 80s/early 90s) but have always found the seat to be mounted too high. So I just can't get comfy, the steering wheel is always right down between my knees, and no amount of adjustment seemed to make it better.

Mr B spotted that monstrosity on ebay a while back, don't think anyone bought it, sad thing is he worked relly hard to get it like that, think he might be a bit slow LOL DarrenW funny you mention the driving postion, i had a mk 2 polo before my sierras and had to sell it as it was giving me RSI in my knees, not enough space, went to look at a mint mk1 golf and exactly same prob, hense the big car, its not bad comfort wise but got a much smaller steering wheel in the 3 door which helps a fair bit.

There's a tatty red 2-door in the car park at work... it's on wide white steelies, has 'V8' on the front wings (but a single standard looking exhaust... ) and it's on an old 'S' plate.... All very mysterious.... I'll see if I can get some pics....

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

oooh ooh oooooh and i just remembered, there used to be a guy worked on the same estate as me, same shift pattern so i saw it every day - mk1 3door, totally stripped blue shell, unpainted bumpers, white 5-spokes and a rollcage. never got the chance to see it go quickly but it looked like it would.

I've been trying to keep quiet, what with me being so biased!
I actually got my E-plate Sapphire over eight years ago, when it was quite flash for a 19 year old! I had a really bad back at the time and it was the only car I could really get comfortable in. Still got it (as seen in avatar).
Mk1s are (IMHO) the ultimate, especially the poverty models (I thought it was ony me who liked them!), and 2.0iS. Would start looking for one but I just had to save my bro's '92 GLSi from the breakers!

there was a 5 door which i kept trying to drum up a bit of interest for, don't know if its sold now though. think it might of, banger boys wanted it but man werent impressed with that idea, boasted brown interior and space age trims! and a 5.0 would go straight in. must admit sierras werent my choice of car when i was 15 but my opinion has changed since i've had one. cgi.ebay.co.uk/classic-ford-sierra_W0QQitemZ4572008469QQcategoryZ9844QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
