First lot were made by my dad, and passed on to me over the years... Slide hammer, the weight is from an old yarn winding machine... Deep clamp, for reaching over sills when welding patches into floors... Cradle for one man removal/refitting of RWD gearboxes, replaces saddle on trolley jack. Plate is part of an old lawnmower... Ramps...! Coil spring compressors... Clutch aligning tool... Ford Pinto engine valve clearance adjusting spanner... These are some that I've made over the years... not quite in the same league... Rover 216 front pulley locking tool... Tack lifter modified to re-fit Vauxhall (IIRC) clutch cable return spring to the pedal... Carlton gearbox filler plug tool... Erm... 'things' to extend the reach of a hub puller...

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Home made tools are the signs of a proper mechanic!
Those spring compressors look far better than any I've seen for sale...

I've made / modified a fair few tools in the past. Making serpentine tensioner spanners is a popular one. I have a drawer of spanners all ground down at work for stupid fiddly jobs in tight spaces.

I've got a collection of busted sockets / spanners / other stuff just for adapting! ;D I'm jealous of that deep clamp... excellent!

Just remembered a couple of others that my dad made... when a moped tw@tted the front wing of his Vanden Plas 1300, he flame cut 2 plate steel rings, welded a 'U' shape plate to one, bolted them into the headlight aperture, chained the 'U' to a fencepost and reversed the car to pull the damage out... ;D
He also made a roller thing to sit the front wheel of a Maxi in so he could run it up in gear to diagnose a noise on the front.

Homemade rocks Between me and my rallying mate we've made an engine crane, tyre changer, 5 tonne benchpress, chassis straightener (using a 5 tonne jack!), and a massive A fame (originally for lifting our boat, but very useful for lifting the front of the rally car high up in the air to fit things like sump guards!).

Damn! How about that? In the few second it took me to type that post, Ant managed to use the same opening expression.
